Aatlis is a Flashpoint map in Overwatch 2, released on June 24, 2025 along with the start of Season 17.

Gameplay[]

Players battle to capture five Flashpoints:

  • Station (A)
  • Garden
  • Town Center
  • Bazaar
  • Resort

Development[]

Aatlis was the first new map since the release of the Flashpoint mode, so as with other modes, the developer team wanted to make sure the map was the culmination of things they had learned over time. The main point of focus on designing the map was navigation. Originally, there were much more winding roads with weird turns that they wanted to make more straightforward to not feel like you had to take a journey to reach your destination. Another important aspect was to make sure the points were distinct and thematic already early on. While the points in previous Flashpoint maps had unique aesthetics, they wanted to make sure this carried over to the street level as well in Aatlis.[1]

Another thing the developer team felt that needed to improve from the other Flashpoint maps were the run times. As such, Aatlis is much smaller and more compact compared to New Junk City and Suravasa. Besides simply making the map smaller, one of the tricks to improve them was to integrate the forward spawn areas under the playable space, so that the players would not have to run around them.[1]

The map was originally intended to be set in daytime, however their desire to push the focal points and the colors lead to them experimenting with nighttime lighting. While the team was unsure at first, they really liked how the unique colors and lighting came together, and how it helps to tell players where they need to go.[1]

The team wanted also to improve the play style variety on the points. They wanted to emphasize the strengths of different heroes on each point, while maintaining a balance of options to other heroes on that point. For example, the Garden point is described as being more weighted toward mobile heroes, but it also features some longer sightlines as well as cover for brawl-oriented heroes.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Aatlis was inspired by the city of Marrakesh in Morocco.[1]
  • The Garden point has frogs.
