Battle Pass is a monetization system for Overwatch 2 used to unlock Cosmetics and earn Credits, Coins and Mythic Prisms.
Overview[ | ]
Each season has a corresponding Battle Pass, and each Battle Pass has two tracks — free, and premium. Players automatically start out on the free track, whereas the premium track can be purchased for 1000 Overwatch coins (roughly the equivalent of $10 USD). Each Battle Pass has a variety of cosmetics that can be earned through it, though most are exclusive to the premium track.
All players progress through the Battle Pass simply by playing the game, as well as through completing daily and weekly challenges which offer significant XP. Upon gaining enough XP, the Battle Pass gains a level and unlocks cosmetics on either the free or premium track. Players can also progress their Battle Passes faster by grouping up for a 20% boost on match XP. If a player acquires the premium Battle Pass later in the season, all previously earned premium tiers unlock at that time.[1] Each Battle Pass has 80 tiers that a player can progress through.[2]
Until Season 9, any newly released heroes in Overwatch 2 were unlocked through the Battle Pass, either through leveling up the free Battle Pass or instantly unlocked upon purchasing the premium Battle Pass.[2] However, with the release of Season 10, all new heroes will be unlocked by default, for free, for all players, provided they have unlocked all the legacy heroes (either by owning a copy of Overwatch or through First Time User Experience progression).[3]
While there are no further rewards past the Prestige Tiers, with the final reward at Tier 200, the highest known Battle Pass tier achieved was 1,058.[4].
Prestige Tiers[ | ]
When the Battle Pass is completed, i.e. reaches Tier 80, players can continue to progress through Prestige tiers, available to both free and premium Battle Passes. Prestige rewards take longer to unlock and can only be achieved in their correspondent season.[1] Each Battle pass has 8 Prestige tiers, each with a unique Player Title. These are found at Tiers 85, 95, 105, 115, 125, 155, 175 and 200. From Tier 201+, there is no further rewards.
Tier Skips[ | ]
Tier Skips, purchasable from Blizzard Store or occasionally included in bundles and Twitch Drops, allow the players to instantly unlock the specified amount of tiers in an incomplete Battle Pass. Tier Skips cannot be used on a Battle Pass above level 80 to unlock Prestige levels. Any unused skips are stored and will be spent automatically at the start of the next season.
Mythic Skins[ | ]
Up through Season 9, the season's Mythic Skin was unlocked directly by leveling up the premium Battle Pass, either in parts throughout it or at once upon reaching tier 80 and completing the Battle Pass. However, from Season 10, the Mythic Skins have been moved into the Mythic Shop and the premium Battle Pass rewards Mythic Prisms instead that can be used to purchase the skins. Starting from tier 8, every 10 tiers rewards 10 Mythic Prisms, resulting in total of 80 Mythic Prisms being rewarded per Battle Pass which is enough to fully unlock a Mythic Skin in the shop. The Mythic Shop allows purchasing the base skin and its customization tiers separately and features previous Mythic Skins that were released at least 3 full seasons ago.
