Brigitte is a Support hero in Overwatch. Released on 20 March 2018, she is the 27th hero added to the game.
Overview
Brigitte specializes in armor. She can throw Repair Packs to heal teammates and automatically heals nearby allies when she damages foes. Her Rocket Flail can strike multiple close-range targets when swung normally, or a single medium-range target via the Whip Shot. When entering the fray, her Barrier Shield provides personal defense and can also be used offensively with Shield Bash. Brigitte’s ultimate ability, Rally, gives her a small short-term speed boost and provides longer-lasting Overhealth to herself and her nearby allies.
Abilities
- Reduces the time before passive health regeneration starts from 5 to 2.5 seconds after taking damage.
- Triggered by Rocket Flail, Whip Shot, or Shield Bash.
- If triggered, there is a 1 second cooldown before it can be triggered again by Rocket Flail, but can be instantly triggered by Whip Shot, or Shield Bash.
- Does not stack with itself. Instead, the duration resets.
- Does not apply to allies behind enemy barriers or surfaces that block line of sight.
- Applies a heal-over-time effect to allies, meaning they do not have to continuously stay in range.
- Does not trigger from hitting most non-enemy targets such as Symmetra's Sentry Turret. However, it can be triggered by hitting Wrecking Ball's Minefield.
- B.O.B. counts as an enemy and can also be hit to trigger Inspire.
- Healing total reduced from 75 to 55.
- Damage per second: 75
- At 5-6 meters away, Brigitte's flail has a horizontal range of 3 meters on the side she swings toward and 2 meters on the opposite side.
- Brigitte does not have a quick melee. Attempting to use it will swing the Rocket Flail instead.
- Rocket Flail is not reflected when blocked by Deflect.
100 over 2 seconds (over time)
- Healing per second: 50
- There is a short 0.5 second cooldown between uses, starting from the moment the ability is activated.
- If multiple Repair Packs are thrown at the same target, the healing duration is simply increased by 2 seconds.
0.19 + 0.3 seconds (≥ 6 meters)
700 (during Rally)
- Barrier health regenerates at a rate of 85 per second after being retracted for 2 seconds.
- The shield is in the shape of a vertical rectangle curving in at the bottom sides.
- Barrier Shield's orientation can be changed by moving the mouse.
- During Rally, the barrier's health and size are increased.
- If Shield Bash collides with Rocket Punch, Charge, a charging B.O.B., or another Shield Bash, both participants get knocked down for 1.7 seconds.
- During Rally, Shield Bash impacts multiple enemies and stuns all enemies hit for 0.5 seconds.
- Shield Bash's movement speed buff does not count towards global movement speed buff cap.
- Damage increased from 50 to 60.
30 seconds (overhealth)
- Overhealth per second: 30 on allies
- During Rally, Brigitte's abilities are enhanced: Barrier Shield becomes wider and its current and maximum healths are increased to 700 and Shield Bash impacts multiple enemies and stuns all enemies hit for 0.5 seconds.
- Rally can be activated any time, interrupting Brigitte's primary fire and any ability she is currently using.
- Activating Rally resets the cooldown of Shield Bash and restores the shield even if it was destroyed.
- When activated, Brigitte instantly gains movement speed and additional armor on top of her current health pool for the duration of Rally.
- This armor can be restored by healing, but it does not regenerate by itself.
- Brigitte herself does not gain overhealth over time.
- Rally's movement speed buff does not count towards global movement speed buff cap.
- Duration increased from 10 to 15 seconds.
- Rally does not increase Barrier Shield size in Story Missions.

Strategy
Brigitte is a versatile support hero who specializes in providing healing and overhealth to allies. Her primary value comes from being a bodyguard, providing protection to characters who are more susceptible to the enemy than most. The large healing aura generated by Inspire makes her most useful when her team stays together. Despite her strength in close combat, she has little to no means of harming the enemy at range. Try to stay out of sight from enemy ranged dps until your tank engages. Her Shield Bash ability can be used to get in close with enemies. If hacked, she has almost no means of helping her team at all.
Weapons & Abilities
- Inspire (Passive): Brigitte's passive ability. Whenever she damages an enemy with Rocket Flail, Whip Shot or Shield Bash, a healing aura will be created around her which heals allies over time. Every attack will refresh the passive. Once an allied player has the effect of Inspire, they can leave the radius and still receive the healing until the duration expires.
- The ability has a short cooldown before it regenerates again.
- While the healing aura is very large, it has the weakest healing in terms of its raw numbers. Because the nature of the ability requires her to attack the enemy, this can sometimes be inconsistent when there is no enemy to attack.
- Keep as a group with your teammates, as the healing won't go through walls and centers around Brigitte.
- Rocket Flail: Brigitte's primary weapon. Her primary fire is a melee attack with the flail. The attack is extended forward and can hit multiple enemies, although it deals low damage in contrast to its fast attack speed.
- Much like Reinhardt's Rocket Hammer, the Rocket Flail replaces Brigitte's melee attack.
- Unlike Reinhardt's Rocket Hammer, Rocket Flail doesn't create any knockback to the enemy. It is best used in terms of an offensive tool rather than a defensive tool, especially combining with Shield Bash since she can rush to the enemy and combo them with the flail.
- Repair Pack: When activated, Brigitte will throw a repair pack toward the targeted ally. When it contacts the target, it will heal a large amount of health over 2 seconds.
- This has a moderate cooldown, so it is best to use it on half to critical health allies, as if used wrong, it could cause important allies to be eliminated.
- Prioritize this ability for characters with a lack of a self heal ability as it allows them to keep pressure on the enemy to begin a team fight.
- Using this ability when Inspire isn't active is recommended due to its large maximum range.
- Since most of the healing from this ability happens relatively slowly (over 2 seconds), if an ally is low health, you may need to follow up with shield-bash + shield to protect the ally while the healing takes place.
- Whip Shot: When activated, Brigitte will throw her flail a long distance, dealing a decent amount of damage and knocking an enemy away. Her movement speed will be heavily decreased during the cast time.
- While it is a bit hard, this ability is useful to do an environmental kill when the enemy is standing around a cliff.
- Whip Shot creates a strong knockback compared to Shield Bash. You can increase the knockback from Shield Bash by activating Whip Shot immediately and sending the target off of a cliff or the objective.
- This ability also activates Inspire. This is useful as a kite tool to heal her teammates, as it has long range and short cooldown to compensate it.
- Try not to use it on an open area, as her reduced movement speed will make Brigitte easily headshot by the enemy.
- Her Rocket Flail has a very long second half animation; you can easily cancel this into a Whip Shot to increase your DPS.
- Brigitte is most vulnerable while using Whip Shot, as it cannot be cancelled with her shield. The animation duration varies depending on the distance at which the Whip Shot makes contact (if at all).
- Barrier Shield: When activated, Brigitte will deploy a frontal energy barrier to absorb any incoming damage. The barrier is only the size of Brigitte herself and can receive a limited amount of damage. Her movement speed will be slightly decreased when holding a shield. When not in use, the shield will begin to regenerate its health until it is redeployed. When broken, the shield can't be used for a short duration.
- Due to its small size, it is best to be used as a personal barrier or use it to protect a key teammate such as Mercy beginning Resurrect.
- Switch between primary fire and barrier mode more frequently when you are closing the gap with an enemy, as you can lure them to unleash a strong attack which the barrier can absorb.
- Much like Reinhardt's barrier, her Barrier Shield is extremely useful when playing mind games with strong enemy ultimates such as Reinhardt's Earthshatter or Cassidy's Deadeye.
- Shield Bash: Only available while holding the barrier. When activated while holding the barrier, Brigitte will dash forward and damage an enemy in front of her. She will receive a short burst of movement increased during the cast time and has a slight delay after it contacts the target before it undeploys the shield.
- Shield Bash no longer stuns enemies in Overwatch 2 (except when ulting).
- Since this ability is only available with your barrier deployed, it is best to always leave a sliver of health on the barrier.
- This ability can also be used for quick movement towards or away from enemies. It can also be used to evade ultimates such as Mei's Blizzard or Sigma's Gravitic Flux when used to quickly dash outside the radius.
- In conjunction with Rocket Flail and Whip Shot, you can deal a large amount of damage before knocking the enemy away. Note that contacting an enemy with Shield Bash will have a slight delay before you can undeploy the shield.
- If Shield Bash collides with Charge, Rocket Punch, a charging B.O.B., or another Shield Bash, both participants get knocked down for 2 seconds.
- Rally (Ultimate): Brigitte's ultimate ability. When activated, she will immediately receive 100 armor and generate an aura which teammates around her overhealth. The overhealth will be increased over time until reaching its cap or until destroyed. Only Brigitte moves faster while the ultimate is active. It also allows her shield bash to stun. You can use it to disrupt the enemy's channeled Ults.
- Her ultimate gives 300 overhealth over its duration, but is capped at 100 total over their health. This means if you use it out of combat to just generate overhealth for your team, you’re effectively only getting a third of its potential compared to having it running during combat.
- The speed boost Brigitte gains is very useful for her to get important melee hits in and to knockback key targets.
- Unlike Zenyatta's Transcendence and Lucio's Sound Barrier, her ultimate is more proactive, as it's often better to use it a little bit ahead of a big fight so it has some time to stack up. Since there is 15 overhealth given per half-second tick, it takes 3 seconds to replenish 90 overhealth.
General Strategies
- Brigitte is a great addition to a team, but should not be a solo healer or even paired with Lúcio. Brigitte is a great substitute for Zenyatta.
- Her Rocket Flail is a great weapon to attack many enemies. Whip Shot is useful for knocking enemies off a cliff, or keeping them off a choke point.
- Whip Shot is quick, but still requires Brigitte to lead her shot carefully.
- Be careful when using Whip Shot, as the time it takes to retract can leave Brigitte vulnerable. The speed decrease can make her an easy target for snipers.
- Brigitte's Barrier Shield is a good defense for protecting herself from low-health enemies, and can block some Ultimates entirely.
- Shield Bash combined with a melee and Whip Shot can do massive damage quickly before knocking the target away.
- Brigitte should always help friendly healers, especially when they are being harassed by flankers. In addition, use your shield to cover Mercy while she is resurrecting a teammate.
- Rally can be a push tool or a protection tool. Her Repair Pack is a great way to heal allies, but be wary of its cooldown.
- Try to avoid Sombra, as Brigitte's abilities are almost entirely her source of usefulness. However, unlike Lucio, her passive still activates while hacked.
- While she is labeled as a support hero, Brigitte is somewhat of a Tank/Support hybrid. She has the highest amount of total health points among Support heroes (50 armor/150 HP), and her Barrier Shield can be a useful damage blocker.
- There are three main threats to Brigitte: Heroes that can output a high amount of damage quickly (such as Junkrat or Bastion), snipers (as she has a larger hit-box than other supports), and Tanks due to their high damage output at close range and high health pools. Be wary of these when playing, as they can easily take her out.
- Similar to Reinhardt's Rocket Hammer, Brigitte's Rocket Flail can do damage to multiple enemies around her. PC and *Console players can quickly swing their aim around while her attack animation is playing ("*" = Sensitivity value above 85% is required).
- Between her standard Rocket Flail attacks, Shield Bash, and Whip Shot, Brigitte is capable of devastating burst damage that can take her opponent off-guard and kill them before they can react. Low-health heroes such as Tracer, Moira, and Genji are her best potential targets.
- While it's tempting to use Whip Shot as the final move of a combo, it's important to be aware of whether or not your opponent will survive the attack. If they do, they'll be sent flying away from you and your team, making it easy for them to escape and recover. In this situation, it's best to position yourself so Whip Shot will knock your opponent into a desirable location (such as towards your team or off a cliff), or if necessary, or refrain from using Whip Shot altogether and try to finish them off with standard attacks.
Match-Ups and Team Synergy
Tank
Hero | Match-Up | Team Synergy |
---|---|---|
D.Va |
Thanks to Inspire's gradual healing and D.Va's lack of burst damage, you should be able to handle yourself fairly well against D.Va in a one-on-one bout while she's in her Mech. Just remember that while her health may be massive compared to yours, you have self-healing while she doesn't, meaning you will almost always win a battle of attrition. Once D.Va's out of Mech, make sure to quickly kill her; if she makes distance on you, not only will you be unable to reach her with your low whip range, she'll be able to peck away at you with her Light Pistol's impressive damage, potentially regaining her Mech. If you still have your Shield Bash once her Mech is destroyed, quickly use it on her to stop her from fleeing. Your Barrier Shield may be able to protect you from Self-Destruct, but don't expect to be able to protect any of your teammates, and watch its health to make sure it isn't shattered just before D.Va's Mech detonates. | Brigitte has no notable team synergy with D.Va. |
Orisa |
While Orisa's Fusion Driver isn't as threatening up close as it is from afar, it still has impressive damage; combined with Fortify making Orisa immune to your Shield Bash, this can render Orisa a tough opponent to fight up close, while at a distance she'll just shred through your Barrier Shield. If you're in a group fight, though, Orisa's slow movement speed makes her a prime target to whack with your Rocket Flail; this will trigger Inspire to keep your team healthy enough to stay in the fight. Be wary of Halt!, as your lack of mobility skills makes you a prime target to be dropped down pits. Shield Bash will let you lunge forward a small distance to save yourself from falling off a cliff, but it won't always be enough. | Brigitte has no notable team synergy with Orisa. |
Reinhardt |
Reinhardt's Rocket Hammer poses a serious threat to Brigitte, which cannot be blocked by Barrier Shield, and which is fatal in three swings, so directly fighting him is a bad idea. You also need to watch out for Fire Strike, which cannot be blocked. However, Brigitte's Whip Shot can push him away, buying time to get out of his range, or knock his Charge off-course. Your Shield Bash can be used on the front of a Charge to stun both you and the Reinhardt, saving a pinned ally and making Reinhardt vulnerable to your teammates. Bashing the Charging Reinhardt from behind will cancel the Charge without stunning. Cancelling Earthshatter with a Shield Bash can be a game-deciding play, but playing too closely to the enemy Reinhardt is risky. When your focus is on healing, you can occasionally get close enough to a blocking Reinhardt to get a whack with your Rocket Flail and activate Inspire, then Shield Bash away before the punish. Whip Shot does not hit Reinhardt through his shield, and therefore does not activate Inspire, but Rocket Flail attacks do. | With both of you being close range heroes, Reinhardt and Brigitte rely on each other. While Reinhardt can tank hits, use his shield to protect you and keep enemies distracted, you can support him by dealing extra damage and keeping Inspire active to passively heal him. Throw a Repair Pack or two when his health reaches lower levels. Be sure not to overextend if your Reinhardt charges far away from the team as you'll be more vulnerable. Rally pairs well with Reinhardts massive healthpool giving him even more survivability. Keep in mind that your heals, alone, will not be sufficient in a highly sustained/burst DPS scenario such as Bastions Configuration: Assault or Headshots from Ashe and Widowmaker respectively. |
Roadhog |
(To be added) | Because you both move slowly, stick with your friendly Roadhog. He won't have any barriers to protect you, but you have your own if need be, and with Inspire and Take a Breather, you can ensure that he stays alive. |
Sigma |
(To be added) | Because you both move slowly, stick with your friendly Sigma. His Experimental Barrier will keep the both of you secure, which will open you up to whacking away with your Rocket Flail. Between Accretion and Shield Bash, you can stun lock quick and troublesome foes. |
Wrecking Ball |
(To be added) | Combining Wrecking Ball's grappling hook knock back with your rocket flail can quickly dissemble and spread out an enemy's organized push. Assuming your team is grouped up, it can make it easy to focus lighter characters and supports that have been knocked away from their team. |
Winston |
(To be added) | Brigitte has no notable team synergy with Winston. |
Zarya |
(To be added) | You and Zarya both move slowly, so be sure to stick with one another. Her Projected Barrier can keep you safe in a pinch, while your Shield Bash can peel off anyone trying to heckle her. |
Damage
Hero | Match-Up | Team Synergy |
---|---|---|
Ashe |
It's difficult for Brigitte to take a 1v1 with an Ashe at long range. It's best to focus on healing your teammates, or routing closer to the Ashe using a natural covered area. Brigitte can also use her Shield Bash against B.O.B, knocking both Brigitte and B.O.B to the ground, which can prevent B.O.B from contesting a point. Your Whip Shot can easily knock back B.O.B, and can easily make an environmental kill possible if there's a ledge nearby. | Inspire and Rally will both affect B.O.B, so if the enemy team is trying to take him down instead of hide from him, get in there and help keep him alive long enough to fulfill your objective. |
Bastion |
Bastion is arguably one of Brigitte's toughest enemies, and it's difficult to take out a bastion from long range. Whip Shot cannot knock the Bastion back while it's in it's Sentry configuration, and a Shield Bash can leave you open to other attacks. Your best bet is to stay out of the Bastion's line of sight; a Shield Bash is good for movement to get out of the way. | While your shield won't do much to protect Bastion, you can help fend off hecklers like Tracer or Genji who attempt to flank his blind spots. While you won't be able to heal him much if you're keeping your distance from the enemy team, Bastion's self-healing will render this a non-issue. |
Cassidy |
Cassidy, being a short-mid range hitscan, has a neutral match-up with Brigitte - his Flashbang can make you open to attacks, but you can deny the effects using your Barrier. Don't Shield Bash him when there's more enemies nearby. | Cassidy, being a mid-to-close-ranged skirmisher with a lot of sting, is bound to be subjected to enemy heckling due to his threatening presence in most exchanges. As such, he may be in need of the extra insurance your Repair Packs provide. As well as this, Cassidy's Deadeye is an ultimate that has the potential to turn the tide of battle in your favor, so actively shielding him as he initiates the Deadeye can prove to be especially effective, killing off most foes in Cassidy's field of vision as a result of a longer charge time. |
Doomfist |
Doomfist can take you out easily with his Uppercut and Seismic Slam combo, so it's best to stay near allies that have little counter-play against an enemy Doomfist, such as Zenyatta or Ana. A Shield Bash disables Doomfist from using his abilities for a second - you can then finish him off with a Whip Shot that's well aimed. | Doomfist's blitz playstyle will leave him open to being overwhelmed and killed. However, if you move in with him and press the attack, you can keep him alive with both Inspire and Rally, and the longer he's alive, the more damage he'll cause. Additionally, granting Doomfist an armor pack before he engages the enemy team will provide him some extra health that might mean the differnce between him escaping or dying. |
Echo |
(To be added) | (To be added) |
Genji |
Like Doomfist, stay near allies that have little counter-play against Genji, such as an Ana or Zenyatta. If you hear Genji using his Dragonblade, get your shield up to sustain less damage. However, keep an eye out if he's Nano-boosted by an Ana on his team, as a Nano-boost and a Dragonblade combined is incredibly dangerous. | Brigitte can provide armour packs to Genji as he engages the enemy team so that he has a higher chance of survival. Additionally, giving Genji an armour pack during Dragonblade will make him an even harder target to kill and will likely confirm at least two kills due to the additional health. |
Hanzo |
At long range, an enemy Hanzo can easily destroy your Shield Barrier, take you out with a headshot or two, making him one of your worst foes to take out. Hanzo's weak at close range, so get up close and personal and take the Hanzo out. Remember that it's not a good idea to use your Whip Shot, since this can allow him to easily kill you with his arrows. | Brigitte has no notable team synergy with Hanzo. |
Junkrat |
If you hear a RIP-Tire, ensure that you keep your barrier up. However, his tire can kill you if it's behind, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for his RIP-Tire. Otherwise, he can easily take you out with a few hits with his Frag Launcher or Concussion Mine. | The long-ranged explosive ordinance that Junkrat brings alongside him to battle will be especially impactful when combined with your ability to disorganize enemies to some extent with Whip Shot and Shield Bash. As Junkrat moves in to set up his various traps, he could also use some protection from harassment, which you can easily provide. |
Mei |
With Brigitte and Mei sharing a similar effective range, it's important for Brigitte not to let herself get frozen by shielding off the cry freeze. If you manage to force the mei into Cryo Freeze, wait next to cryo freeze so you can stun Mei as soon as it ends. Brigitte can also stun mei after she freezes an ally to prevent Mei from hitting a follow up headshot. | Brigitte's team synergy with mei depends on the enemy team's composition. Against a Wrecking Ball or Doomfist, Brigitte can allow Mei to try focus on walling off members of the enemy team while Brigitte stuns the Wrecking ball or Doomfist, allowing the second damage dealer to take care of the now overextending flanker. |
Pharah |
Pharah can easily take you out with a few hits from her Rocket Launcher. The best way to knock her back is to use your Whip Shot, but otherwise, focus on other enemies and let other team members take her out. | Brigitte has no notable team synergy with Pharah. |
Reaper |
The best way to finish off an enemy Reaper is with a Whip Shot. However, his Wraith Form and Shadow Step can easily make him escape from you if he's under attack. After he's used either of these, you can then swoop in and eliminate him. | Brigitte can follow Reaper when brawiling with the enemy team to deal massive ammounts of damage at close range and giving the Reaper even more healing. |
Soldier: 76 |
Soldier: 76 has high mobility, and can use his Sprint ability to easily get away from your attacks. If he's near a ledge, use a Whip Shot to knock him off. If he tries to use his Biotic Field when airborne, it will not activate unless it touches solid ground. Remember, a Shield Bash can leave you vulnerable against other enemies. | Brigitte has no notable team synergy with Soldier: 76. |
Sombra |
You can swing your Rocket Flail and Whip Shot areas where Sombra might be while she uses Stealth, to attempt to un-cloak Sombra. If you expect an EMP to come soon, make sure to Shield Bash her as soon as she starts saying "Apagando las luces!" to disable the EMP. | If your friendly Sombra hacks mobile enemies like Tracer or Genji, this will leave them open for you to move in and kill them at close range while their mobility abilities are cut off. |
Symmetra |
Brigitte's Rocket Flail can take out Sentry Turrets via a single swing. Ensure to get rid of her Sentry Turrets first before taking her on in a 1v1. Using your Shield Bash, however, can leave you vulnerable to other attacks. | Always keep an eye on where Symmetra's Teleporter is; you have very low mobility, meaning the Teleporter will be a great boon for approaching an objective or quickly fleeing. Also, keep an eye out on where Symmetra's Sentry Turret nest is; if you can lure an enemy into Symmetra's trap, they'll be slowed down enough for you to turn around and finish them off. |
Torbjörn |
Brigitte should try to use Shield Bash to route between natural cover close to the objective. If the Torbjörn is a counter pick against an allied Tracer or Genji, give the ally an Repair Pack so that they have a bit more damage to sustain when they fight Torbjörn. | If Torbjörn happens to leave his Turret alone and it's being assaulted by the enemy team, you can protect it with your Barrier Shield. Just keep in mind that due to your barrier's low health, you'll only be able to protect it so much, so only do this if protecting the Turret is needed to secure the fight. |
Tracer |
Due to her low health at 150HP, Tracer is one of Brigitte's easiest targets. However, her Pulse Pistols deal a lot of damage when close to her, and your best bet to stay alive is to give yourself and allies armor via Rally or a Repair Pack. | With Brigitte's Repair Pack or Rally abilities, she can give Tracer more armor to sustain damage. One armor pack increases Tracer's health up to 200HP, making you her primary healer to depend on. |
Widowmaker |
A fully charged headshot from a scoped shot from a Widowmaker could mean a one-shot kill. Keep your barrier up when you're in her line of sight, and Shield Bash to get away quickly. If she's close to you, try to Shield Bash her so that she cannot use her Grappling Hook while she's stunned. | Brigitte has no notable team synergy with Widowmaker. |
Support
Hero | Match-Up | Team Synergy
|
---|---|---|
Ana |
Ana's Biotic Rifle can easily take you out after a few shots, but they can be blocked via your shield, which gradually takes damage. Brigitte can easily punish an Ana via a well-timed Whip Shot to take her out. | When your team's other healer is Ana, consider your team composition. You'll be relying on her for the majority of your team's healing, so instead of hanging in the back, you'll want to stay on the front lines with your team to both help with damage output and also provide additional healing with Inspire. Echo and Ashe are your best bets for a team composition when paired up with Ana. In particular, if Ana hits some teammates with her Biotic Grenade, focus on damaging enemies near them so that their increased healing will boost Inspire's effect. Should Ana hit you with her Nano-Boost, throw caution to the wind and blitz into the enemy line. As long as your team is there to support you, you should be able to plow through the enemy team before they can kill you off. |
Baptiste |
When matched up against a Baptiste, your best bet is to take out his Immortality Field first. A Whip Shot deals decent damage, taking about half of it's damage out. After the field's down, you can head in and take a KO. | Brigitte has no notable team synergy with Baptiste. |
Brigitte |
If you're up against another Brigitte, never Shield Bash her first, as you're vulnerable to other attacks from members of the other team ganging up on you. Apart from that, ensure to keep attacking her with your Whip Shot and Rocket Flail instead to take her out in a 1v1. | Brigitte has no notable team synergy with another Brigitte in No Limits. |
Lúcio |
Despite that Lúcio can easily Wall Ride away from you, a good Whip Shot can knock him off. A well-timed Shield Bash can be just the thing to finish him off. Be wary of his Crossfade: Healing, as this heals him up. Try to continue to attack him if he's using this tune. | You and Lúcio both rely on being near your team for the bulk of your healing. As such, try to stick with your teammates, preferably slower heroes who are more likely to stick together such as Roadhog or Mei. Sticking together also means that both Rally and Sound Barrier will work to greater effect. |
Mercy |
(To be added) | Brigitte has no notable team synergy with Mercy. |
Moira |
Moira can heal herself via her Biotic Grasp while she's damaging you. A well-aimed Whip Shot can knock her back out of range. | Brigitte has no notable team synergy with Moira. |
Zenyatta |
Zenyatta's low mobility means that Brigitte can stay close and hit easier Rocket Flail/Shield Bash/Whip Shot combos. | You and Zenyatta both lack mobility, but Zenyatta is more adept at handling long-distance threats, whereas you're more equipped to fend off flankers. While you don't need to stick to Zenyatta at all times and should let him hold the rear of your team, make sure you always have an eye on him so you can come to his rescue if a flanker tries to heckle him. |
Story
Brigitte is the youngest daughter[3] of Torbjörn and Ingrid Lindholm,[4] and is a traveling companion of Reinhardt Wilhelm. No longer sitting on the sidelines, Brigitte Lindholm has taken up arms to defend those in need of protection.[3] A Lindholm through and through, Brigitte's aptitude for engineering is matched by her sense of honor.[5] She is very stubborn, a trait inherited from her father.[6] She didn't inherit his dwarfism however, and is very tall.[7]
Brigitte spars with Reinhardt every day. Afterwards, she and Reinhardt go to a pub or tavern to relax. She likes doughnuts, and loves semlor.[6] Brigitte has regular workouts, but also "cheat days" where she gorges on food. These "cheat days" occur at her discretion. She is an amateur poet and songwriter, but apparently not a talented one.[7]
Pre-birth
“ | He has been bothering me insufferably at my bedside. Half in jest, I suggested that if it would shut him up, I would allow him to name our daughter, as he has been badgering me about it these past months. He, of course, took me at my word. Truth be told, I had been considering making him her godfather, and I hope you'll forgive me for making this decision without your consultation. We can only hope she doesn't take after him too much. | „ |
~ Torbjörn in a letter to Ingrid |
Brigitte was conceived many months before the events of Operation White Dome, where her father lost his left arm and right eye in battle. He would have lost his life as well, if not for Reinhardt's actions. As he recovered in hospital, Reinhardt wouldn't leave his side. Torbjörn became so frustrated that he told Reinhardt that if he left him alone, he could name his daughter. Torbjörn also decided to make him the godfather. Hence, Brigitte received her name, and her godfather.[8]
Early Life
Brigitte was the first of Torbjörn's children to show an interest in mechanical engineering. Brigitte spent much of her spare time in her father's workshop, learning the trade and honing her skills. Her aptitude for engineering mirrored that of her father's, but Brigitte's primary interest was in armor fabrication and defensive systems, unlike Torbjörn, who was world-renowned (and perhaps infamous) for the weapons he created.[3] As a child, she made a suit of armor for her pet cat (much to its disgruntlement).[9]
At some point, Torbjörn took Brigitte to a music festival. Lúcio Correia dos Santos was the headliner. She and the rest of her family also visited Ilios.[7]
Everyone expected that Brigitte would continue her apprenticeship and follow in her father's footsteps. But her plans changed due to the influence of another prominent figure in her life, her father's close friend and fellow Overwatch agent, Reinhardt Wilhelm. A close friend of the family, Brigitte's godfather told her tales of heroes and chivalry as she grew up.[3] When Reinhardt was forced into retirement from combat operations due to his age, Brigitte would learn of it through her father.[10] While she may have wanted to join Overwatch before, she didn't want to now, disgusted as to how Reinhardt had been treated.[11]
After Overwatch's fall, Reinhardt declared that he would become a knight-errant on a quest to bring justice. Before he left on his adventures, Brigitte surprised him by asking to join him as his squire.[3] Interested in adventure, Brigitte wanted to travel around, do good, and getting a chance to make the world a better place.[6] Reinhardt accepted her request.[3] She considered traveling alongside him to be a great honor.[11]
Travels with Reinhardt
“ | Reinhardt. I don't approve of you dragging that poor girl around on your adventures. Brigitte has made her choice. I would have her at my side. |
„ |
~ Mercy and Reinhardt |
As a squire, Brigitte had many responsibilities, the most important of which was the upkeep of Reinhardt's Crusader armor (a design she was familiar with as the current version was designed by her father).[3] On occasion, they would get into scraps.[12] More and more, she found her main job was taking care of Reinhardt himself, trying to protect him from his over-enthusiasm even as his body was breaking down from years of combat.[6]
Dragon Slayer
“ | We need new parts. Your armor can't handle another battle in this condition. When has that ever stopped us before? |
„ |
~ Brigitte and Reinhardt |
Low on fuel and money, Reinhardt and Brigitte stopped off in a town to obtain some of the former. They discovered it to be akin to a ghost town, and it was revealed to be due to the Dragons, a group of armed scavengers. They encountered the Dragons soon afterwards, and Brigitte was held back as the thugs assaulted her friend, leaving only after Reinhardt had been soundly beaten. Brigitte rushed over to help him as the Dragons headed off to loot another town. Returning to their transport, Reinhardt remained set on helping the people, despite Brigitte's warnings that his armor couldn't handle another battle. Nonetheless, they got to work on its repair, and Brigitte located the Dragons in a factory outside town. Reinhardt engaged the criminals in combat, returning with the declaration that they would not bother the town any longer. Using scrap retrieved from the factory, Brigitte gave Hanna's stuffed toy lion an 'upgrade.'
Their job done, the pair returned to their original goal of picking up fuel.[12] However, Brigitte was uneasy; Reinhardt had nearly lost the fight, and she had scant parts with which she could repair his armor.[13] She realized that serving only as a mechanic wasn't enough, and that the best way she could aid Reinhardt was to become a warrior in her own right. While Reinhardt trained her in combat, Brigitte began to build her own suit of armor in secret.[3] Her initial suit was a prototype, made from whatever materials she could find.[6]
Reflections
That same year, Brigitte and Reinhardt spent Christmas at her parents' home, with the latter reading stories to the Lindholm grandchildren.[14]
Honor and Glory
“ | I thought we talked about this. You don't have to do this anymore. Winston's message wasn't meant for you. This isn't your fight. Papa told me, after so many years of service. You gave Overwatch everything, and then they pushed you out. Why would you go back to them? What are they still fighting for? | „ |
~ Brigitte |
Brigitte and Reinhardt were in Eichenwalde when they discussed the issue of Reinhardt returning to Overwatch, per a recall order from Winston. Brigitte was against the idea, telling Reinhardt that Winston's message wasn't meant for him. She also expressed a dim view on Overwatch, given how Reinhardt had been forced to retire from the organization in his fifties. Despite her pleading, Reinhardt resolved to heed the recall order.[10] Realizing that Reinhardt believed that he had no choice, she resolved to support her mentor as best she could.[6]
At some point after receiving news of Winston's recall, Brigitte forwarded it onto Fareeha Amari. However, she refused to join Overwatch, as her place remained with Helix Security International.[15]
Taking Up Arms
“ | In stories, the heroes get the honor and glory. But their gleaming armor, their mighty weapons, the people who built them were heroes in their own right. And I thought I was going to follow in their footsteps. But a hammer and tools can't fix every problem. There are some things that can never be repaired. It's not enough to wait until the battle is over to fix their armor and bandage their wounds. If you can fight at their side, you can try to keep the blows from falling, and maybe even protect them from themselves. I am Brigitte Lindholm. And I will be their shield. | „ |
~ Brigitte |
Brigitte finished work on her armor,[3] though continued to refine it.[6] At some point her father added to the design.[11] She began to fight at Reinhardt's side, accompanying him in his return to Overwatch[16], and any others in need as knight and squire journey to make the world a better place, one battle at a time.[3]
Zero Hour
“ | Hi Lena. Brigitte? Oh my gosh, you've grown. |

~ Brigitte and Tracer reunite |
Null Sector launched an attack on Paris. Brigitte and Reinhardt arrived in their truck, running over numerous Nullifiers to join the fight alongside the Overwatch agents that were already there. The Null Sector Titan fired an energy weapon at the group, but by interlocking their shields, the two of them were able to cause the beam to arc upwards, diverting it away from the Overwatch team. This gave the others enough time to destroy the Titan. In the aftermath, Brigitte greeted Tracer, who commented how much she'd grown. Brigitte was less enthused about Reinhardt saying how "ice" it was to meet Mei, though. In light of their victory, Winston declared that Overwatch had returned.[17]
A New War
Following the battle in Paris, the team traveled to Watchpoint Gibraltar, where Brigitte took advantage of Winston's technical expertise to enhance Reinhardt's armor, upgrading it to version 09.[18] It would be needed, as Paris wasn't the only target Null Sector had attacked. Brigitte commented that what they'd faced in Paris was only just the beginning.[19]
Rio
“ | Right. So we fly up there, smash through anything that gets in our way, and put them out of business. Is that dude serious? You know, we can never tell either. |
„ |
~ Brigitte and Lúcio discussing Reinhardt's plan |
Overwatch deployed to Rio de Janeiro in response to an attack by Null Sector on the city. They linked up with Lúcio, and were able to temporarily repel the attacking omnics. However, Null Sector's command ship remained in the sky, and Lúcio warned them that as long as it remained airborne, Null Sector would be able to keep deploying its forces at will. Brigitte and Genji were assigned to distract Null Sector, while Reinhardt, Tracer, Mei, and Lúcio fought their way into the command ship.
The plan worked, and the ship's core was destroyed, sparking a chain reaction that spread throughout the ship. By this point, Echo had picked up all the team in their shuttle sans Reinhardt's team. Brigitte and the others watched as the others were able to get on the shuttle before the command ship was destroyed, Brigitte helping Mei make a safe landing inside the shuttle's bay.[20]
Gothenburg
Brigitte was present in Gothenburg when it was invaded by Null Sector. She fought against the attacking omnics alongside Reinhardt and Torbjörn.[21]

Trivia
- Brigitte is Hero 27 and the sixth new hero added to the game.
- When asked what was the most overpowered balance change the team has ever made, Geoff Goodman replied, "I'd say at this point its pretty clear Brigitte's initial balance was pretty far off the mark. She has been nerfed multiple times since then and she is still very strong."[22]
Cultural References
- Brigitte's name may be a reference to Saint Bridget (or "Birgitta") of Sweden, a fourteenth-century nun and the patron saint of Sweden.[23] Despite the fact that most Swedes consider themselves non-religious, Saint Bridget still maintains a level of popularity as a national and cultural icon; in other words, the name "Birgitta" is to Sweden what "George" is to England. Because of this, the Overwatch character may have been named "Brigitte" simply because it is a common Swedish feminine name, rather than as a direct reference to Saint Bridget.
- In 2019, Brigitte's Riot Police skin was released. Dante Douglas of Vice criticized the skin, claiming that it "celebrates police militarization."[24] In response, Eric Kain of Forbes wrote a counter-article, stating "Overwatch characters are already cops - maybe it's time to stop ridiculous clickbait articles about them."[25]
Misc. Character Information
- Like her father, Brigitte has an Ironclad Guild tattoo on her shoulder. Hers is on her outer left shoulder, while Torbjörn's is on his outer right shoulder.[10]
- Brigitte also sports her father's old wrench from his Overwatch days, on her Engineer/Mechanic Skins, which is located hanging under her pack. Her Mechanic skin has the original color scheme.
- Brigitte's favorite drink is beer.[26]
- Michael Chu has commented that Brigitte "probably looks at a lot of holo-cat gifs".[6]
- Chu has further confirmed that in an arm-wrestling match between Brigitte and Zarya, Zarya would win.[6] In interactions with Tracer in Overwatch 2, Brigitte claims that she could lift Tracer up with one arm.[7]
- In other interactions with Tracer, the subject of Brigitte seeing someone is raised. On the subject, Brigitte tells Tracer that she'll tell her about it later.[7]
- Brigitte's favorite ride at Blizzard World is Flight to Duskwood.
- Brigitte has a number of nieces, nephews, and siblings,[27][28] and owns numerous cats.[7]
- Her favorite animal is the Siberian tiger.[7]
Development
Brigitte was originally designed by Nesskain.[29] When Reinhardt was being developed, the developers "wanted a character who would play Sancho Panza to Reinhardt's Don Quixote." As a result, the concept for Brigitte as a character (if not a hero) existed more or less from the outset.[6]
A hero with a spear and a shield charge with range similar to Reinhardt's was in development at one point. This eventually was put into Brigitte's kit. [30]
As a hero, Brigitte was developed to counter hit-and-run gameplay starring Tracer, which was prevalent in the Overwatch League at the time. Brigitte, with her stun abilities, was designed as a counterbalance.[31]
Because Brigitte already existed in lore before work began on her as a hero, the designers already had a good idea as to how to approach her character design. A rough sketch of her as an engineer was submitted. Another design for her was as an actual paladin (nicknamed "the pally") with armor motifs more akin to the fantasy archtype. In this version, a sun crest was on her shield rather than a lion.[32] The lion crest was chosen to look like Reinhardt's, inspired by the idea that a squire bears the arms of the knight they serve.[6] The shield and flail combination was previously conceived as a weapon kit for Wildebeest, Reinhardt's prototype design.[33] The canceled hero concept known as Troy also shared similar abilities. Swords and a more traditional mace were considered for Brigitte, but the developers went with the rocket flail because of its connection to her hammer-wielding inspirations.[6]
In her final design, elements of the paladin remained, but Ben Zhang made the aesthetics a bit more akin to her mechanic design. He reasoned that as Torbjörn's daughter and Reinhardt's squire, her design should take elements from both. Likewise, her role as a tech-based healer also influenced the final design.[32]
Brigitte was announced and added to the PTR on February 28, 2018.[34] When her official page on the website was made public, her age was listed as 28. Lead writer Michael Chu notified fans on Twitter that that version of the bio was outdated and had some incorrect details, including her age.[35] The age was later changed to 23 on March 1, 2018.[36] This makes her the second hero in the cast to have a publicly known age adjustment, the first being Mercy.
Overwatch 2
Brigitte had a minor rebalancing to her abilities in the transition to Overwatch 2, to suit the new 5v5 format. For Brigitte, this mean't her shield bash ability would no longer stun Overwatch 2.[37] This was later revisited and instead added back into her hero kit when they redesigned her ultimate "Rally" in season 4.
Like almost all Overwatch Heroes, Brigitte was redesigned and given a new look for Overwatch 2. Not much is known about the idea behind her new look. It was stated that the general scheme concept for all new hero looks for Overwatch 2 to be aimed at keeping the "essence" of the hero, while showing some evolution and character growth in the design.[38]

Balance Change Logs
- For more information, see Patch Notes.
- Knockdown time when two charging abilities collide reduced from 2 to 1.7 seconds.
- Now resets Shield Bash cooldown upon activation.
- General updates
Most damage-dealing projectile sizes have been increased by a new global modifier added to their base size.
- +0.05 meters for hitscan projectiles with a high rate of fire or spread (e.g., Tracer's Pulse Pistols or Reaper's Hellfire Shotguns).
- +0.08 meters for hitscan projectiles that are more precise (e.g., Cassidy's Peacekeeper or Soldier:76's Heavy Pulse Rifle).
- +0.05 meters for travel time projectiles that are shotguns or have a very high rate of fire (e.g., Roadhog's Scrap Gun or Ramattra's Void Accelerator).
- +0.10 meters for travel time projectile with a speed greater than 50 meters per second (e.g., Zenyatta's Destruction Orb).
- +0.15 meters for travel time projectile with a speed less than or equal to 50 meters per second (e.g., Pharah's Rocket Launcher).
- Very large projectiles with a base size greater than 0.5 meters have been excluded from these increases (e.g., Orisa's Energy Javelin or Reinhardt's Fire Strike).
Hero combined HP (base health/armor/shields) increased by 15-25%.
- 150-175 HP heroes increased by 25 HP.
- 200-300 HP heroes increased by 50 HP.
- 300+ HP (Tanks) increased by 75-100 HP.
- Each hero's precise health increases are listed in their patch notes below.
Ultimate Charge
- All Ultimate ability costs increased by 10%.
Regenerative Passive for All Heroes
- All heroes now regenerate 20 health per second after 5 seconds of not taking damage.
Support Role Passive
- Now reduces the delay before regeneration begins by half (2.5 seconds).
- Hero updates
- Health increased from 150 to 200.
- Damage increased from 35 to 45.
- Damage reduced from 80 to 70.
- Damage increased from 70 to 80.
- Barrier Shield health reduced from 300 to 250.
- Ultimate cost increased 6%.
- Brigitte now gains 100 restorable armor health pool for the duration of Rally
- Brigitte no longer gradually builds temporary health like her nearby allies
- Rally now upgrades her Barrier Shield, increasing both its size and health
- Barrier health increased from 300 to 750 during the ultimate
- During Rally, Shield Bash now impacts multiple enemies and briefly stuns them
- Bonus movement speed reduced from 30 to 15%
- Range reduced from 30 to 25 meters
- Healing over time reduced from 55 to 50 per second
- Applying a Repair Pack now instantly heals for 25 health on impact
- Ultimate cost reduced 10%
- Health increased from 250 to 300
- Duration reduced from 6 to 5 seconds
Developer Comment: Even with the removal of stun from her Shield Bash, Brigitte continues to be very strong in 5v5, especially in team compositions that take full advantage of the passive healing provided by Inspire. This change doesn’t affect Brigitte’s raw healing per second, however it should make her overall effectiveness less generous in situations where she’s unable to reapply Inspire.
(beta)
Developer Comment: It’s difficult to tell when Brigitte lands a Shield Bash because the impact of that ability was not easily noticeable. This is a subtle change that will make the ability feel more satisfying.
- Knockback doubled
(beta)
- No longer stuns enemies
- Cooldown reduced from 7 to 5 seconds
- Distance travelled increased from 7 to 12 meters
- Movement is no longer stopped when impacting barriers
- Damage increased from 1 to 50
- Now also triggers from Shield Bash damage
- Damage increased from 50 to 60.
- Duration increased from 10 to 15 seconds.
- Rally does not increase Barrier Shield size in Story Missions.
Inspire (Passive)
- Healing total reduced from 75 to 55.
- Base health reduced from 175 to 150
Developer Comment: Brigitte was a likely candidate when looking at close range heroes to receive a health adjustment while experimenting with 25 HP increments. This ended up being too powerful when combined with her self-healing and barrier.
- Base health increased from 150 to 175
- Base health lowered from 200 to 150
- Total healing decreased from 130 to 90 (Healing reduced from 21 to 15 health per second)
- Self-healing is no longer reduced by half
Developer Comment: After gaining multiple Repair Pack charges, Brigitte was enabled to play at safer distances while still having a powerful impact on her team. Combined with her personal barrier, she ended up not needing as much survivability in terms of raw health. Inspire has also had a powerful team impact despite being hard to feel due to its passive nature, so we are lowering its team-wide healing output while making it more useful for Brigitte herself.
- No longer grants an additional armor health pool
- Maximum health increased from 200 to 250
- Regeneration rate decreased from 100 to 85 health per second
- Cooldown when destroyed increased from 3 to 5 seconds
Developer Comment: Granting additional maximum health is a powerful ability and has proven too effective when combined with the additional healing of Repair Pack. Brigitte's barrier will now provide more protection up front, enabling her to withstand more directed fire, but will also have a longer downtime if it is destroyed.
- Armor over-heal reduced from 75 armor to 50 armor
- HPS decreased from 60 to 55
Developer Comment: On top of the high utility Brigitte brings to her team, she also dishes out a ton of healing and armor. We’re reducing some of this healing and armor to help keep her in line with the other healers.
- Healing amount increased from 100 to 130
- Self-healing from Inspire is now halved
- Now has 3 charges
- Healing amount changed from 150 to 120
- Now heals over 2 seconds instead of instantly
- If you throw multiple packs at the same person, the current duration will be extended by 2 seconds
- Out-going velocity increased from 60 to 80
- Retracting time reduced from 0.6 seconds to 0.3
- Barrier health reduced from 500 to 200
- Stun duration reduced from 0.9 seconds to 0.75
- Ultimate cost increased 10%
Developer Comment: The goal of these changes is to make Brigitte more of a primary healer for your team, at the cost of weakening her survivability. Since Brigitte will now be only one of two support heroes for your team, it is important that she can provide enough healing to be valuable in that role.
- Now has a maximum duration of 30 seconds
Developer Comments: Sometimes Rally could cause a snowballing effect, making it too difficult to deal with the increased health of Brigitte’s allies before she built up another one. This change limits how long Rally’s effect lasts after its initial cast, to make it a bit more manageable in those situations.
- No longer can travel or stun targets through barriers
- Damage reduced from 50 to 5
- Cooldown reduced from 1.5 seconds to 1 second
- Duration increased from 5 seconds to 6 seconds
- Total healing increased from 80 to 100
Developer Comments: Brigitte’s Shield Bash is a strong ability that often feels difficult to counter. This change will offer new options for counter play, enabling shield tanks to better protect themselves and their teammates. Reducing its damage reduces her total stun combo damage potential while still allowing Whip Shot and her basic melee attacks to retain their full strength. Brigitte is a tank/healer hybrid, and lately we’ve been reducing her effectiveness by lowering the power of her non-healing functionality. We want to make sure she is still a viable pick, so we’re increasing the uptime of her Inspire passive ability to help improve her overall healing output.
- Shield health reduced from 600 to 500
Developer Comments: The health of Brigitte’s barrier was extremely difficult for most heroes to deal with, especially as she closes the distance to her targets. This change still provides Brigitte with substantial survivability but should also be more rewarding for opponents who pressure her.
- Now knocks down and gets knocked down by other charging targets (e.g Reinhardt and Doomfist)
Developer Comments: Currently, when two charging targets hit each other, they both fall down and are briefly stunned. You can see this interaction with Doomfist’s Rocket Punch and Reinhardt’s Charge abilities. Brigitte’s Shield Bash previously wasn’t included in this group, which meant that if she used Shield Bash against these other abilities, she would generally stun them and not be affected herself. This change makes it so if she uses Shield Bash against Charge or Rocket Punch, both players will be knocked down.
- Cooldown increased from 6 to 7 seconds
Developer Comments: Brigitte’s Shield Bash is one of her strongest abilities, and its short cooldown can make it difficult to play against. Slightly increasing its cooldown will give her opponents more opportunity to play around it.
- Maximum armor per player reduced from 150 to 100
- Cooldown increased from 5 to 6 seconds
Developer Comments: Brigitte’s ultimate is very powerful, especially when it is placed on the entire team. This change will reduce the maximum armor value of Rally, but does not reduce the overall amount of armor given by the ability over its duration. This means when used in combat while her allies are taking damage, it should feel about the same, but the lingering effects of the armor should have less of an impact. Her Shield Bash is a very strong ability on a fairly short cooldown, making it difficult for her opponents to play around. Increasing this cooldown allows for more options when battling against her.
- Cone angle reduced from 90 to 60
Developer Comments: When fighting against Brigitte, it often felt like Shield Bash was able to hit players who felt like they were out of its range and should have dodged it. On the flip side, when playing as Brigitte sometimes players would hit the wrong enemy in the middle of a fight. With the cone being reduced, the ability is more accurate to its visual representation.
