Are you going to put these in the hero pages similar to the skins? These are so cool. Doomsmurf (talk) 06:04, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
- Once I'm done with it, then sure. Thing is, the main sources I have is In-Game Speech spreadsheet, which is outdated as hell, and some threads on Reddit, which are very random and often inaccurate. And some YouTube videos, which is unreliable. I'd rather have it at least half-decent before I show it off in public.
Basically, I wanted to have all of that listed in one, because I didn't realize how much I miss out about the characters without playing the game. And seeing how Wowpedia turned me into a massive lore nerd even though I've never actually played WoW, I have hopes this one can be like that, too.
Eventually I plan to list all the "thanks"es, "hi!"s and whatever, but for now I focus just on the more significant ones, 'cause they're easier to verify. --Krupam (talk)--- In case you don't have all the ultimate quotes, this reddit post is pretty accurate: https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/4fdw0z/is_that_ultimate_friendly_or_hostile/ Doomsmurf (talk) 06:27, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Audio files[]
So now there's also this. It's all unsorted, so I won't try to put things together from this. I might add links to the sound file for each quote at some point, though, if I figure out how to...
- Alright, I've finished adding whatever voice files I could find to all the quotation pages. I didn't do Mercy, because her VA has been changed and I only have files of the old one, so I didn't bother uploading those. I'm also not exactly sure how does all that sit with copyrights thing, but I hope it's fine. Sorry in advance.
Quotations Suggestion[]
I was wondering... Since there's so much voice clips for heroes and other characters, regardless if they're speaking sentences, or grunting/shouting etc., I'd like to add every single voice clip, eventually so there's the smallest of melee grunts, to the biggest of pre-match conversations (conversations are already added though). The grunts, shouts, etc. would go under a new header, but I'm unsure what to name it. Anyways, what do you think? Gameboy2936 (talk) 02:21, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- I'd say "Other", "Grunts", or "Non-language" could all be considered. Technically I think wikipedia:Paralanguage is the official term but I do not think that word conveys meaning for most users of this wiki. MomoRuns (talk) 19:17, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
- I think "Non-language" is best for a section based on grunt-based quotes (such as using a melee attack, landing on the ground, etc.) Gameboy2936 (talk) 02:05, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
Format of quotes page[]
We have a new extension, "sm2", that displays a small play button instead of the large browser default one. I'd also like to get away from fixed width tables, they are not very accessible on mobile and (maybe its just me) harder to format and modify correctly. I've made a mock up based on Lúcio/Quotes of what I think can be an easier way to display quotes: User:MomoRuns/Quotes mockup. The first entry in the history shows a minimal change, just removing fixed width of the tables and using the audio template (which uses sm2). MomoRuns (talk) 16:01, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
- Doing a bit of testing, the Lucio/Quotes page as it is now takes ~8.5 seconds of real time usage (0.9 seconds CPU time). A simple find/replace to change to sm2 and the page is now taking ~0.5 seconds of real time usage and 0.4 seconds CPU time. I believe that this time only applies to edit/preview and if the page is uncached, but it still is a surprising significant increase in performance. MomoRuns (talk) 16:39, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
- I do like the idea, but I personally feel like it's best to keep the Quotation pages in the same format as it is right now. Say, what if someone wanted to download some of those soundfiles? With the 'sm2' template, you can only listen to them and not download them with that format. Otherwise, I think we should keep the Quotation pages current format. Gameboy2936 (talk) 02:05, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
- At the time of your comment I had made a drastic layout change on the mockup page. I've reverted to a minimal change now, just removing the fixed width of tables (which we can easily leave unchanged) and using sm2. I understand it makes downloading the files harder, (I have no information on how common that is for a user to do. The admins may be able to tell us, but I imagine its not often)
- Anyway, the difference in load times of pages is substantial. The server takes 8-15 seconds to respond when a user navigates to a quotes page. By replacing the raw [[File:]] with sm2 the page time usage goes to ~0.5 seconds for even the largest quote pages. I believe that is a worthwhile tradeoff for not being able to download directly from the page.MomoRuns (talk) 03:23, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, I understand. The page looks almost the same as what it is now, so I can accept that. I do understand as well, there are some pages that have so many voice clips that it takes a very long time to load (such as Mercy's quote page, so I think this would make it much easier to access.
- Also, if there are users that want to download those soundfiles, they can be accessed via it's category (for example, Category:Lúcio sound files). So that's a good alternative in that case. Gameboy2936 (talk) 04:26, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and changed Mercy's quote page, if everything looks good I'm happy to update the rest of the pages in the same way. I used the wiki editors built in "Search and replace" with "Search for:"
\[\[File:(.*?)\]\]
and "Replace with:"{{Audio|$1}}
. The "Treat search string as a regular expression" checkbox is required to be checked on the dialog box as well. MomoRuns (talk) 14:03, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

- Looking good so far, took much quicker to load this time, instead of using the usual file interface for Google. Gameboy2936 (talk) 01:45, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
