Hey, so, what's the deal with your whole..."blinking" thing?
Well, Winston describes it as "localized time travel"!
Time travel? Like you can go back in time and be there for when they laid the first brick of the Great Pyramid of Giza?!
Not... exactly. But, I guess I've never tried.

The chronal accelerator[1] (a.k.a. chronal harness)[2] is a device created by Winston for Tracer.

Background[ | ]

The accelerator counteracts the effects of the chronal disassociation Tracer suffers, keeping her anchored in the present. In addition, it gives Tracer the ability to control her own time, allowing her to speed it up and slow it down at will.[1] This is effectively a form of localized time travel. To Tracer's best knowledge, she cannot travel into the distant past with the device, but by her own admission, she's never tried.[3]

The accelerator temporarily gave out on at least one occasion, robbing Tracer of her abilities, but still keeping her in the present.[4] When it was destroyed when Tracer was battling Doomfist, she began to blink uncontrollably[5] (the device was presumably fixed or repaired afterwards).

Sombra's translocator appears to use similar technology to this device, and it's suggested Sombra stole it.[6]

The chronal accelerator can be taken off and still keep Tracer in the present as long as it is powered on and she is near it.[7][8]
