Lúcio plays his teammates one of two songs in the background that either give a constant speed boost or distribute continuous healing. Crossfade: Speed will grant heroes (including Lúcio) additional 30% movement speed, when Crossfade: Heal will heal them at the rate of 16 HP per second. Furthermore, Lúcio is only able to activate one type of Crossfade at any given moment. The player may toggle between the two with the ability button with 0.5 second delay in-between.

The healing and speed boost only affects teammates who are in a 10 meter radius around Lúcio, and in his line of sight. Also just below the crosshair is a counter that tells you how many teammates are within Crossfade's radius and receiving the current bonus.
Players can increase Crossfade effects with Amp It Up. When Amp It Up is active, Lúcio is still able to switch between two Crossfade.
In the Game Options, Lúcio has an option that affects his Crossfade:
- Hold To Crossfade: When enabled, the player will have to hold the appropriate button to keep the Crossfade: Speed in active; if the button is not held, Crossfade: Heal will be in active. Otherwise, player can switch between 2 modes by pressing the button once.
- The healing song 'Rejuvenescência' is Portuguese for rejuvenation, which means to restore or energize something.
