The Deepsea Raiders are an eco-terrorist group that operates in Polynesia.
Background[ | ]
The Deepsea Raiders are dedictated to protecting the seas and islands of Polynesia. They are divided into a number of branches. One of the branches operates from Samoa.[1]
History[ | ]
The Deepsea Raiders were formed sometime after the Omnic Crisis. Taking the task of curbing fossil fuel emissions into their own hands, they crashed oil tankers and container ships into super coral embankments. They took what they could salvage and let the super coral consume whatever was left. The Polynesian League attempted to deal with the Raiders, but judging their efforts to be woefully insufficient, Overwatch intervened.[2] One such incident was the Blacksand Fires, where Overwatch engaged the Raiders.[3]
Despite Overwatch's efforts, the Raiders remained active, as seaborne operations were not suited to the skillset of its best agents. After several years of conflict, outside actors intervened in a series of separate attacks on the Polynesian League. Polynesia descended into violence, and as the boundaries of right and wrong shifted, Overwatch was ordered to withdraw. The chaos led to the PL's secession from the United Nations,[2] and the Deepsea Raiders remained active, though their activities later died down.[1]
