Egypt was a battlefield during the Omnic Crisis. As the conflict inflicted a heavy toll on the country, Egypt's depleted and undermanned security forces relied on elite snipers for support.

Seven years before the present day, Director Petras ordered a full investigation into the murder of an Overawtch official in Cairo. Sometime before this, Egypt was the site of a humanitarian crisis that Dr. Ziegler stated Overwatch didn't have the resources to deal with again.

In the present day, poverty is an issue within the nation.
