Frankie is a hacker, and one of the founding members of the Deadlock Rebels.

Story[ | ]

Frankie is a dark-skinned, round-featured young woman, with a sturdy build and short, twisted curly lavender hair. She wears a delicate pair of round, rimless hologlasses. She is able to utilize microdrones for communication and recon.

She is a vegetarian.[1]

Omnic Crisis[ | ]

I know I didn't experience the war like you all did, and I can't possibly understand. But still...I'm sorry.
No, you can't. And consider yourself lucky because of that. My parents and grandparents. Two brothers. My auntie and her wife. We all lived in the same neighborhood, on the outskirts of Tulsa. Omnics hit it so hard it was like a wall of tornadoes went through. Our whole area was devastated. And we were some of the luckiest ones. We didn't lose anything that couldn't be replaced. We all walked away.
~ Elizabeth Ashe and Frankie

Frankie and her family lived in a neighbourhood on the outskirts of Tulsa, which was completely destroyed in the Omnic Crisis. The area was devastated, but Frankie and all of her extended family survived. During the war, and right after, the community shared food, shelter, and medical supplies.

After the war, her brothers and parents were given temporary housing barely large enough to fit the four of them. Frankie left her family to sell her services as a hacker. While she missed her family, she was able to do more good for them through the money she earned, sending it back to them.[1]

The Diamondbacks[ | ]

I've worked with the Diamondbacks. I'm not one of them. I'm a freelancer; I do what I want, when I want. Or when I think the price is right.
~ Frankie

Frankie worked with the Diamondbacks, though was never a member herself. She was put off by Marco's method of running things, though found a friend in Benito Sanchez-Bez. Frankie told Bez that she was leaving, and though he didn't try to stop her, he didn't understand why; as the Diamondbacks were the "toughest gang around," it made sense to its members that everyone would want to be part of them.

Regardless, Frankie left, much to Marco's chagrin.[1]

The Deadlock Gang[ | ]

Cutthroat Trout's[ | ]

Hey, Frankie, wanna make some real money? Just enter the password.
~ Ashe's message to Frankie

Months after leaving the Diamondbacks, Frankie was contacted by a woman via puzzle—Frankie had to successfully reduce what the woman had stolen from an Arbalest Arms shipment three months prior. Frankie found the answer. She also realized that her contact was Elizabeth Ashe, which intrigued her enough to agree to a meeting at Cutthroat Trout's, as she was curious as to what a rich girl like Ashe would need the money for. As Ashe had previously gotten into a fight with Jodie and Jimmy Bonney and been arrested, she had an idea.

Ashe arrived at Trout's. Frankie contacted potential employer via a fly-sized drone before taking a seat at her table, alongside Jesse McCree, Julian, and B.O.B.. Ashe laid out her intention of carrying out a series of heists over the next few months, targeting weapons tech shipments. Frankie revealed that she knew Ashe's identity, and explained her curiosity as to what Ashe would need with such money. Ashe started to explain, and Frankie's suspicions were confirmed—Ashe's money was really her parents', and she'd just been disowned.

Frankie was unimpressed by Ashe's dearth of equipment. Still, she agreed to join Ashe's operation, provided they received equal shares. Julian returned, revealing that he'd struck a wager with Dezba. If one of them won against her, she'd give them four hoverbikes. If they lost, Dezba would win B.O.B.

Ashe was aghast, but Frankie pointed out that she couldn't back out—if she did, Dezba would win B.O.B. through right of forfeit. She also warned Ashe that she couldn't just run, as Trout's took wagers seriously. Still, Ashe had a potential advantage, as Frankie told her that she could hack the hoverbikes in the race, and make sure Ashe won. She also used one of her drones to act as an earpiece.

Frankie managed to sabotage a number of bikes, and by the final lap, only Ashe and Dezba were left. However, Dezba's bike didn't have an onboard computer, meaning that she couldn't hack it. However, Ashe was able to win the race on her own.[1]

Fort Starr[ | ]

After the race, the group arrived at a barn on the edge of Lead Rose, which would serve as their base of operations. Frankie wasn't perturbed, as she'd operated out of worse places.

Ashe announced that she had plans for her next heist—in three days time, an automated Arbelest transport convoy would be passing through, transporting plans to a factory (the plans were being transported physically in order to avoid online piracy). As the convoy was only transporting plans, it wouldn't be expecting any trouble, hence why it was bereft of any protection bar drones. She planned to hit the convoy before it got too close to Bellerae.

To prepare for the heist, Ashe took the team to Fort Starr, in order to purchase ammunition and other goods. Having already been at the fort, Frankie took Ashe to see Metal Mary, where she gave her the list of the items they needed. The meeting went well, but after leaving Mary's shop, they had an encounter with the Diamondbacks, including Bez and Zeke. The meeting was tense, and Frankie said that since Marco was running the gang the same way he had when she'd left, she'd never come back. Bez still respected her however, and wished her well.[1]

The Brisco Incident[ | ]

Uh, Ashe-Good news, bad news.
Bad news? What do you mean, bad news?
Good news first. It's gonna be no problem 'lassoing' the controls on the main transport vehicle. The bad news is that I don't know which one to hack.
~ Frankie and Ashe during the heist

In what would become known as the Brisco Incident, Ashe and her gang made their move against the Arbelest shipment. The plan was that once Frankie hacked the main transport, she and McCree would engage the drones from their hovercycles. Julian would then used his demolition skills to seal the Brisco Tunnel, covering their retreat once the plans were stolen. B.O.B. was left behind, as the heist didn't require muscle, and bringing him along raised the risk of identification.

Frankie, for her part, had wired a system into her hoverbike that would allow her to break into just about any transport system, as long as the vehicle was close enough. However, while Frankie had no problem hacking the transports, she didn't know which one was the lead one. Ashe ordered Frankie to find out by hacking each of them in turn, while she and McCree engaged the drones. The plan was a success, and plans for the H-29 scope were obtained.

Grand Plans[ | ]

First thing, I'm gonna send some of this money to my family. But later, I wanna help rebuild. Both where I grew up, and other places. There was so much destruction left by the Crisis, it's going to take decades to fix it all. The systems I could set up for community support and security...Let's just say I have plans. And I'm gonna travel, too. Anywhere I want. I'm gonna try food I've never tried, see things I've never seen, and hack networks that will never see me coming.
~ Frankie's plans

Returning to the barn, Frankie sold the plans using a shadow account she'd created for Ashe, and the gang received their first payday, with Ashe confirming that Arbelest had failed to identify the bikers who'd attacked the convoy.

Frankie was in awe, and pointed out that given the resources at Ashe's disposal, the sky was the limit. However, Ashe pointed out that they were on a deadline—once she turned eighteen (in a few months time), her parents would be back, and their operation would end. A rift developed, as Ashe had led a privilaged life compared to the other three, and hadn't suffered in the Omnic Crisis like Frankie and Julian had. Frankie and Julian reminisced on their experiences in the Omnic Crisis, while McCree remained silent on his past.

Frankie declared her intention to send some of the money to her family, and later help rebuild her home neighborhood and the other areas destroyed by the Omnic Crisis. Also, she'd travel, sample food, commit new hacks. They celebrated at Cutthroat Trout's, after which Frankie and Ashe discussed their families. Frankie stressed that sometimes, family wasn't defined by blood, but by those who stuck by each other.

Showdown at the Hopper[ | ]

Sorry, Frankie, baby. Look, the money is good, but, I—well, they gave me no choice.
Who gave you no choice? Liu, what did you—
~ Liu's betrayal

Over the next two months, Frankie and the gang carried out nearly a dozen nearly flawless heists; mostly against Arbelest, but also a few other companies, in order to obscure the fact that Arbelest was their main target. However, the Arbelest targets were where the big bucks were coming from. Ashe continued to use her "Calamity" moniker, and to cover her tracks, Frankie scrubbed images of Ashe's arrest from the Daily Pioneer archives.

Things went awry however at The Hopper, where they met with Liu (whom Frankie had worked with before) in what was meant to be a simple exchange. However, Liu had double-crossed them, and the gang found themselves surrounded by the Diamondbacks. Bez and Marco walked up, and laid out his terms. This was Diamondback territory, and Ashe's gang had gotten too greedy. So they were going to cease all their activity, or else...well, there were a lot of holes where people could be buried in the desert.

The Diamondbacks left, and to Frankie's shock, Ashe declared that she had no intention of backing down, even after Frankie warned her about Marco.[1]

Siren[ | ]

In what was meant to be their big score, the gang carried out a heist on an Arbelest train shipment, carrying a weapon known only as "Siren." The train had yet to depart when they infiltrated the train yard; Frankie had plotted out the drones' patrol routes, and cut the electricity to the train yard's fence.

McCree found the cargo crate holding the weapon, but Julian triggered a motion sensor, which alerted the yard's security drones to their location. They managed to escape, but upon opening the crate, found only standard-issue rifles. Ashe realized that she'd made a mistake.[1]

Birthday Girl[ | ]

Ashe's eighteenth birthday arrived, and Frankie and the rest of the gang threw a surprise party at Lead Rose. Frankie left Ashe's side early on, and Ashe noticed that Frankie "seemed as comfortable flitting around the party as a butterfly around a meadow." However, the party was crashed by the Diamondbacks before leaving. Ashe talked to Frankie and Julian about what had happened; Frankie was spooked by the fact that Marco had been there. Just then, flaming bottles were lobbed into the mansion. In the chaos, Ashe realized that McCree had disappeared. Frankie tried using one of her microdrones to find him, but had no luck. Ashe realized that the Diamondbacks had kidnapped McCree.

With audible police sirens, Ashe told Frankie and Julian to hide in the barn.[1]

The Parting of the Ways[ | ]

You don't think I'd get Jesse back in a heartbeat if I could? And don't talk to me about what this was. We worked our butts off on those heists, only for you to go and blow our earnings on getting yourself out of jail. You didn't ask us for help first, or for permission, you just went ahead and did it. Because it's nothing to you, is it, 'boss?' There's always more money to be made for types like you. You say what we did means something to you, but is it any more than a game? Any more than what your parents are always doing with their elite corporate friends? I had plans for that money, Ashe. Plans to help my family and friends back home. And now those plans are dead in the water because of something you decided, on your own. How can you call us a team and make a decision like that? From the moment we started this, you were always the one with the least to lose.
~ Frankie

After being released on bail, Ashe reunited with Frankie and Julian in the barn. To their shock, she revealed that she'd spent almost all of the money in the shadow account to pay for it, and that she intended to rescue McCree. Frankie explained that the Diamondbacks would take them to their hideout at Route 66, but there was no way of getting there without them knowing, and that the odds of getting out alive were minimal. Ashe refused to be swayed, and accused Frankie of abandoning McCree. Frankie in turn yelled at Ashe, pointing out that she'd used the account without consulting them. That she'd planned to use the funds to help her family and friends.

Ashe and Frankie parted ways, as Ashe and Julian headed off to Deadlock Gorge. After they left, Frankie was left to ponder on recent events. She couldn't stop thinking about how Marco had known who she was at the party. Someone must have tipped him off, and it wasn't her, and it couldn't have been McCree. That only left Julian. Leaving with B.O.B., Frankie headed after Ashe.[1]

Rescuing McCree[ | ]

I'm not saying I don't understand, but...I'd never betray you—or Jesse, or even B.O.B.—like that. I thought you'd know that by now. But I'll give you that one mistake. Next time you doubt me, I'm done. That's not something I'll forgive twice. Understood?
~ Frankie to Ashe

Frankie's deduction was correct, as Julian betrayed Ashe at the hideout. Ashe was taken prisoner, but operating from outside the hideout, Frankie contacted Ashe using one of her microdrones. After deactivating Ashe's shackles, the hacker simulated the sounds of a police siren and speaker, making it seem that the police had surrounded the hideout. The Diamondbacks scattered, and Frankie and B.O.B. met with Ashe, where Frankie explained things to her. Ashe explained that she'd thought Frankie had been the traitor when she'd been taken captive. Things were still tense in regards, but Frankie allowed her this one mistake. There wouldn't be a second chance.

Ashe agreed, and told Frankie that they needed to rescue McCree. As they headed through the tunnels of the lair, they came across Bez, who offered to help them. Marco had become unhinged (old news for Frankie), and he was sick of it. He led them to McCree. They headed out, and parted ways with Bez. Arriving in the warehouse section of the lair, however, they were ambushed by Marco and the Diamondbacks, having figured out Frankie's ruse. A gunfight erupted, and both Ashe and McCree were hit. Outnumbered and outgunned, Ashe offered herself to Marco, in exchange for letting the others go free. Both parties agreed, despite Frankie's protests. Ahse admitted to Frankie that they'd never have been in this mess if she'd listened to her warnings about Marco. Frankie, McCree, and B.O.B. left the building. However, they were approached by Bez, who revealed that Ashe had dethroned Marco, and that the Diamondbacks had joined her gang.[1]

Deadlock For Life[ | ]

We're going to need to order new equipment for the new recruits. You should read some of the stories they're telling about Bellerae about what happened to the Diamondbacks. You've got some fans out there, Ashe.
~ Frankie

Over the following period, more and more gangs began looking to join Ashe's new gang. Frankie and Bez worked together, planning the gang's new jobs. Inside the Panorama Diner, Frankie told Ashe that they'd need new equipment for the new recruits.

Inside the diner, the gang was declared the Deadlock Rebels. Frankie, McCree, and Bez echoed that they were "Deadlock for life." With that sorted, the gang embarked on another heist.[1]

Trivia[ | ]

  • Frankie is mentioned as being around the same age as Ashe.[1] Given Ashe's current age, Frankie is presumably in her late 30s/early 40s by the timeframe of Overwatch.
  • Frankie bears resemblance to Sombra—both are hackers with dyed hair, both suffered during the Omnic Crisis, both ended up joining criminal gangs after the conflict.
