Hero Mastery Gauntlet was a game mode in Overwatch 2 that was announced at BlizzCon 2023[1] and released in March 2024. Introduced in Season 9, the mode was removed in Season 11 due to inactivity. [2]
Gameplay[ | ]
Hero Mastery Gauntlet is a 3 player co-op mode. You can play with players or AI It features tower defense-style gameplay, where players defend multiple towers from oncoming waves of training bots.[1] You can play this in four difficulties:
- Normal
- Hard
- Expert
- Legendary
And you can use any heroes.
Game Overview[ | ]
Work together to defend your towers from rounds of enemy training bots. Collect Energy to buy powerful upgrade for your towers
Rules[ | ]
- 3 players (3 player co-op)
- 10 rounds
- Eliminate the enemy bots each round while protecting your towers to advance
- If all heroes die or all towers are destroyed, the game is lost
- Victory: Have at least one tower standing after 10 rounds
Rounds[ | ]
Each round has a unique random assortment of training bots to defeat. Enemy bots can spawn as elite versions that have powerful upgrades. Survive and defend your towers, in the set time duration.
Towers[ | ]
There are three towers on the map with each tower has its own amount hit points. Towers can be healed with the tower repair upgrade. Enemy training bots can attack towers these towers. All three towers must be destroyed to lose.
Energy[ | ]
Energy is dropped from defeated enemies and critical kills will cause enemies to drop more energy upon death. Energy is rewarded from surviving towers at the end of each round.
Leaderboard[ | ]
- Track your highest scores on the leaderboard and compete against the top 500 players in your region.
Map info[ | ]
Fast travel[ | ]
Use the orange platforms to quickly travel between towers on the map at high speed. When the platforms rise, a pit opens below, this can eliminate anything that enters it.
Emblems[ | ]
Emblems can be collected from the map and defeated enemies. Critical kills have a chance to reward more emblems. Emblems spawn randomly every round, collect all for a scoring bonus! During round intermissions, you can collect extra emblems.
Traps[ | ]
Beware of these yellow platforms! Any movement on them will activate the trap. Though dangerous, they can also be used to your advantage.
Tower Upgrades[ | ]
- Towers can be upgraded using energy
- Each tower has 4 upgrades available. Upgrades can be re-rolled at a high energy cost.
- 14 different upgrades are available and are chosen randomly at the start of each game. Upgrades are grouped and a re-roll will always pull from that group.
Turrets[ | ]
All of the turrets below are apart of the Turret Re-Roll group.
Ballistic turret[ | ]
Turret that shoots at nearby enemies. Costs 35 energy.
Freeze turret[ | ]
Turret that shoots a frost at nearby enemies, slowing their movement. Costs 35 energy.
Flame turret[ | ]
Turret that shoots fire at nearby enemies, causing damage over time. Costs 35 energy.
Knockback turret[ | ]
Turret that knocks back enemies that come within range. Costs 35 energy.
Barrels[ | ]
All the barrels below are apart of the Barrel Re-Roll group.
Frost barrels[ | ]
Spawns several barrels at random locations near the tower. Barrels slow enemies when shot or when enemy near. Costs 25 energy.
Explosive barrels[ | ]
Spawns several barrels at random locations near the tower. Barrels explode when shot or when enemy near. Costs 25 energy.
Stun barrels[ | ]
Spawns several barrels at random near the tower. Barrels stun enemies when shot or when enemy near. Costs 25 energy/
Area affects[ | ]
All area upgrades area apart of the Area Re-Roll group.
Damage boost[ | ]
Increase damage for all heroes by 25% within 8m of the tower. Costs 25 energy.
Stun Field[ | ]
Random circular areas around the tower. When enemy enters them, they are stunned and cannot move or fire. Costs 25 energy.
Slowdown field[ | ]
Random circular areas around the tower. When enemy enters them, their movement is slowed down significantly. Costs 25 energy.
Defense Upgrades[ | ]
All defense upgrades below are apart of the Defense Re-Roll group.
Airstrike[ | ]
Drops several missiles from sky around the tower, dealing area effect damage to enemies nearby. Costs 75 energy.
Knockback pulse[ | ]
Pulse originatig from tower at 8 second intervals. Will push all enemies within range away from the tower. Costs 75 energy.
Tower Repair[ | ]
Heal tower for 25% health over 30 seconds. Costs 40 energy.
Heal Pulse[ | ]
Pulse originating from tower at 8 second intervals. Heals all players in range of the tower.
Rounds[ | ]
Assault Round[ | ]
An assortment of training bots attack towers and players. There are several difficulties of this type of wave, each more lethal than previous.
Explosive Round[ | ]
One or more towers are being attacked by explosive bots that move with predefined routes. Sometimes they have support from other combatants.
Horde Round[ | ]
A large group of bots attack towers and players from a single direction.
Target Practice[ | ]
Time for a breather! These rounds have no towers under attack and all bots are target dummies. A great chance to boost your score.
Champion Round[ | ]
The final round of each Gauntlet game is a special challenge designed around a hero based enemy bot. These rounds are very dangerous!
