Ilios is a Control map in Overwatch.

Background

Ilios is located in the Aegean sea of Greece, which is part of the Mediterranean Sea.[1]

Situated atop a small island rising from the Aegean Sea, Ilios is a postcard-perfect Mediterranean town, with a bustling harborside, winding paths for rambling hillside strolls, and gorgeous vistas. It is the ideal vacation stop for people looking for a place to relax, or for those interested in exploring the ruins scattered at the top of the island, where many artifacts and relics of the ancient world have been recently unearthed.

The big hole in the middle of the control point can be used to score easy eliminations, especially on durable heroes such as Roadhog or Reinhardt. Abilities capable of doing that include:

Some heroes, however, have ways of mitigating such attack:

  • D.Va can pull herself out using Boosters.
  • Genji can use his Dash and Double Jump. This might be difficult, if not impossible, if he is too far away from the edge of the well.
  • Lúcio can Wall Ride around the well provided he's close enough to its walls. This might be tricky to do and requires practice, but is very much doable.
  • Mercy can pull herself to an ally using Guardian Angel.
  • Pharah can use Jump Jet to launch herself upwards and escape the well.
  • Tracer can Recall back to the surface.

Trivia

  • The big hole in the center of the map may be a reference to the movie 300, where king of Sparta, Leonidas, kicked the Persian messenger.
  • The style of the houses and buildings in the map is obviously following the cycladic architecture. The deep white color comes from the use of lime as the building material.
