Ilios is a Control map in Overwatch.
Background
Ilios is located in the Aegean sea of Greece, which is part of the Mediterranean Sea.[1]
Situated atop a small island rising from the Aegean Sea, Ilios is a postcard-perfect Mediterranean town, with a bustling harborside, winding paths for rambling hillside strolls, and gorgeous vistas. It is the ideal vacation stop for people looking for a place to relax, or for those interested in exploring the ruins scattered at the top of the island, where many artifacts and relics of the ancient world have been recently unearthed.
Gameplay

Each turn is played on one of the three sections of the map:
- Lighthouse
- Ruins
- Well
Strategy
- This section is a stub section. You can help by adding any available information to this section.
On the Well section of the map, the big hole in the middle of the control point can be used to score easy eliminations, especially on durable heroes such as Roadhog or Reinhardt. Abilities capable of doing that include:
- D.Va's Boosters
- Junkrat's Concussion Mine
- Lúcio's Soundwave
- Pharah's Concussive Blast
- Reinhardt's Charge
- Roadhog's Chain Hook
- Winston's melee attack during Primal Rage
Some heroes, however, have ways of mitigating such attack:
- D.Va can pull herself out using Boosters.
- Genji can use his Dash and Double Jump. This might be difficult, if not impossible, if he is too far away from the edge of the well.
- Hanzo can Wall Climb the walls of the well.
- Lúcio can Wall Ride around the well provided he's close enough to its walls. This might be tricky to do and requires practice, but is very much doable.
- Mercy can pull herself to an ally using Guardian Angel.
- Pharah can use Jump Jet to launch herself upwards and escape the well.
- Tracer can Recall back to the surface.
- Widowmaker can use her Grappling Hook provided it's off cooldown.
- Winston can use his Jump Pack to escape.
Trivia
- In Greek, ήλιος (pronounced ilios) means sun.
- The style of the houses and buildings in the map is possibly following cycladic architecture. The deep white color comes from the use of lime as the building material.
- The island is possibly based on Santorini Island, located in the Agean Sea.
- The big statue which can be faintly seen in the distance is a reference to the Colossus Of Rhodes, which portrayed Helios or Ilios, and was one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world.
