He wanted to know whether the stranger was a self-appointed sheriff, and espoused the idea that such vigilantism should be welcomed, given the high crime rate.[1]

THEORIES

It is theorized Joel Marricone is actually McCree writing about himself under a pseudonym. The article he wrote is about McCree and defends his acts. The two characters also share initials (JM). The name is mentioned in an interaction with Sombra, Sombra stating [in reference to McCree] "if that is your real name." McCree states his name isn't Joel despite Sombra not metioning the name Joel.
