Protective waves radiate out from Lúcio’s Sonic Amplifier, briefly providing him and nearby allies with personal shields.
    Health:
    Cast time:
    0.72 seconds from flat ground
    Duration:
    7 seconds
    Area of effect:
    30 meter radius

    Ability details:
    • Gives Lúcio and all allies in his line of sight a huge burst of temporary shields that immediately decay at 125 shields per second.
    • When cast, Lúcio does a small leap before applying his ult, making it more effective to cast it from low to high ground (like a payload or ledge) or close to a low ceiling (like a small doorway) to decrease cast time.
    • After fully cast, has approximately 0.5 seconds of "grace period" where the ultimate can still be applied to allies that have not received personal shields if they come in range.
    • Does not affect allies behind enemy barriers.

    Strategy

Lúcio is a versatile Support who requires good situational awareness to master. His aura allow him to contribute damage in fights while passively buffing his allies, and he can protect against enemy ultimates and enable his team to make aggressive pushes using his Sound Barrier. He can escape dangerous situations using his Amped Up speed aura and his Soundwave's knockback effect, giving him a relatively high survivability for a support hero. While his damage output is lower than many other Supports and he doesn't have high single-target healing like Ana or Mercy, his multiple-target healing and speed buffs make him a valuable member of any team.

    Weapons & Abilities

    • Wall Ride (Passive): Lúcio's passive ability. It allows him to ride along walls, and increases his movement speed while doing so.
      • He can also leap off of walls for a burst of speed.
      • In the Settings, there's an option to allow backwards wall riding. It is highly recommended as it allows you to focus aim somewhere else while starting a wall-ride.
      • He can Wall Ride smoothly around corners, provided that there's no objects in the way, and that Lúcio maintains line of sight with the wall.
      • By learning routes to Wall Ride on, Lúcio can get to otherwise inaccessible places and take major shortcuts, which can help him maintain line of sight on allies as well as stay above the fight and away from focus.
    • Sonic Amplifier: Lúcio's primary weapon. Fires a 4-round burst of projectiles.
      • The Sonic Amplifier's four projectiles are slow, so predict where your target will be and lead your shots.
      • Does not interrupt Crossfade in any way, allowing Lúcio to deal damage while healing allies.
      • Sonic Amplifier deals decent damage, at 20 per projectile, meaning a maximum potential of 160 damage per shot (assuming all four projectiles headshot).
      • The projectiles have perfect accuracy and no damage falloff, so it is recommended to fire them off at large targets such as tanks to charge up Sound Barrier quickly. The perfect accuracy can be used to destroy Torbjorn's Turret or harass a Bastion in Sentry mode from a safe distance.
      • Headshots with the Sonic Amplifier are relatively easy due to the large size of the projectiles.
    • Soundwave: Lúcio's secondary fire from his primary weapon. It is an AoE that affects an arc in front of Lúcio, dealing minor damage and knocking enemies back.
      • Its main feature is the ability to push enemies away. You can disrupt groups of enemies using it, or knock away enemies trying to harass you.
      • Take advantage of areas where you can push enemies off the map using Soundwave, such as on Ilios or near the side doors on Lijiang Tower: Market.
      • Has great killing potential by pushing enemies into environmental hazards.
      • Can be used to finish off a critically injured enemy easily.
      • Soundwave is especially effective on enemies that need to be up close to deal damage, such as Reaper.
    • Crossfade: Lúcio's passive ability is to heal allies or boost their speed. Activating the ability changes the tracks played.
      • Only works if his allies are on line of sight to Lúcio. It will, however, continue to give the effects of the song for a brief moment after breaking line of sight, such as Mercy's Caduceus Staff.
      • The healing song can deliver a constant stream of healing to multiple allies, however, it is quite low, so Lúcio fares poorly as a solo healer.
      • Whenever your team's health is topped off, switch to your speed aura to allow your teammates to dodge, retreat, and pursue their opponents more easily.
      • Does not work if Lúcio is hacked.
    • Amp It Up: Briefly increases the effectiveness of Crossfade.
      • Amp it Up can be used to heal critically injured teammates faster.
      • Amp It Up can be used at the start of control point games to allow you and your team to reach the objective faster.
      • Amp It Up can be used to move a team quickly through a choke and allow a good initiation.
    • Sound Barrier (Ultimate): Lúcio's Ultimate ability. After a short cast time it will provide a large amount of personal shields that block damage for allies and quickly decays.
      • If timed well, it can block damage from some other Ultimates, such as Genji's Dragonblade or Junkrat's Riptire.
      • Sound Barrier can be used to help your team push through a choke.
      • Sombra's EMP can instantly erase the personal shields provided by Sound Barrier. When Sombra is in play, make sure she is out of the fight or EMP has already been used. Her normal Hack ability can prevent Lúcio from casting Sound Barrier or even cancel it during the brief cast animation, but does not affect the shields provided by Sound Barrier once it's fully cast.

    General strategies

    • Lúcio has lower friction than the rest of the cast, due to his skates. Meaning he can conserve momentum better when on ground and jump to maintain some speed.
    • Try to stay in the back line behind your teammates. This both gives you protection and allows you to monitor your team's health bars and positions more easily. You can speed boost back to the center for protection if you get flanked.
    • Always pay attention to your team's health. Be sure to wait until your teammates have taken damage to Amp Up your healing aura, so you don't waste it.
    • Being a "taxi" for your teammates can save valuable time and help your team group up. Being a "taxi" refers to using an Amp It Up's speed boost to move specific teammates quickly. Some examples of when to "taxi" teammates:
      • If certain members of your team have died and your team doesn't currently need you, return to the spawn room and bring your respawned teammates back to the group.
      • If you die, bring up the Scoreboards menu (Tab by default) and if another teammate is about to respawn and you aren't urgently needed, wait for them before leaving.
      • On Defense and Control Point maps, always Amp Up your speed aura when the round starts, so your team can get into position quicker.
      • On Defense maps, return to the spawn for straggling teammates to help them back before the setup timer runs out.
      • If an ally gets nano-boosted or uses his/her ultimate while pretty close but out of the fight use amped up speed boost to bring them in. Preferably Reinhardt.
    • When the enemy team uses crowd control ultimate like Blizzard, Deadeye, or Self-Destruct, switch to your speed aura and Amp It Up to help you and your team escape behind cover.
    • Use an Amp It Up's speed aura to quickly move your team through choke points and overwhelm the enemy.

    Match-Ups and Team Synergy

    Tank

    Hero Match-Up Team Synergy
    Icon-dva
    D.Va
While D.Va's boosters give her high mobility and mostly prevent her from environmental deaths, she has trouble dealing much damage to you due to your small hitbox and constant healing/speed. If you manage to survive long enough you can deal enough damage to get her out of mech and potentially kill her altogether. D.Va's Self-Destruct is greatly countered by your speed boost as it can effectively get teammates outside its range, and a well timed Sound Barrier gives all fully healed tanks (and Bastion) enough health to survive a direct blast while also giving decent protection to other teammates with less than 250 health as long as they aren't at a distance too close to the explosion. D.Va's high mobility makes speeding her up largely unnecessary, however your own high mobility can allow you to keep up with her as she engages, helping her secure elimations and keeping her healed up.
    Icon-orisa
    Orisa
Your high mobility can make it difficult for Orisa to hit you, however you must still make an effort to maintain unpredictable movement to reduce the chances of Orisa hitting you. In a 1v1, wallriding over her can confuse her while you pummel her with shots into her large head hitbox, doing severe damage to her. If you get pulled by her Halt, immediately amplify speed boost (if you have it) to get away as soon as possible. If she is behind her shield, simply shoot at it with your team and do not attempt to engage her if she has support. You are one of the best characters at baiting out Fortify thanks to your Soundwave. Orisa is usually played as part of a defensive or slow-paced offensive bunker strategy, where your speed boost is largely useless. Consider switching to a different support if this is the case.
    Icon-reinhardt
    Reinhardt
Your speed boost can help get allies out of Reinhardt's hammer range, making it easier to harass him. Knocking him off a cliff with Soundwave may be tempting, but his knockback resistance will make it very difficult to send him flying unless he's right on the cliff's edge. If your team is stunned by Earthshatter but you aren't, Sound Barrier can save them from a team wipe. If you suspect that an enemy Reinhardt has Earthshatter, stay up on walls to avoid being knocked down, so that you can respond with a counter Sound Barrier. In a straight up 1v1, he will likely kill you if he is within hammer range, so maintain your distance. You and Reinhardt have excellent synergy, as your speed boost can allow him to close the gap between him and the enemy team quickly, allowing him to bulldoze through an unprepared team.
    Icon-roadhog
    Roadhog
If Roadhog grabs you with his Chain Hook, you're likely to die. If you can avoid him, though, you can knock him around with Soundwave to knock him out of position, into your team's line of fire, or off a cliff to his doom. Sound Barrier does little to counter Whole Hog; while it won't kill anyone, it will greatly disrupt your formation and scatter your team, likely wasting a lot of health gained from your Ultimate. As Roadhog is slow with no mobility options, you can help him close the gap to do more damage or to get within hook range. If you notice a Roadhog counter like Reaper harrassing him, you can boop them away from him, while speeding the Roadhog away to save him.
    Icon-sigma
    Sigma
You have the advantage at close range against a Sigma, as your high mobility makes you difficult for him to hit you with his slow-firing Hyperspheres. However, you should avoid moving predictably against him, as that can make you an easy target to hit with his Accretion, which can leave you vulnerable. Sound Barrier is one of the best counters to his Gravitic Flux, so consider saving it if you suspect that an enemy Sigma has his ultimate available. Sigma is usually part of a double barrier strategy, so speed boost will be largely ineffective. If he is being played as a solo shield tank however, your speed can help him maneuver faster.
    link=http://overwatch.gamepedia
    Wrecking Ball
Use Soundwave against a Wrecking Ball trying to roll through your team, which can send him flying in the opposite direction. You can also use Soundwave to disrupt the effectiveness of his Piledriver. Despite you having the mobility to chase him down, it is usually not worth it unless he is very weak. Sound Barrier can be used in response to Minefield to allow your team to survive a few of the explosions. (To be added)
    Icon-winston
    Winston
Winston's lock-on primary weapon makes your mobilty largely useless when fighting against him, so use speed boost to escape his Tesla Cannon's range. You can use Soundwave to disrupt a Winston attempting to engage with Jump Pack, however he will likely use his shield to block this. If you notice a Winston harrassing your backline, use Soundwave to knock him away from your teammate(s). (To be added)
    Icon-zarya
    Zarya
Try to avoid directly fighting a Zarya one-on-one if she has high energy, as she will quickly kill you if she has good aim. Many Zaryas will play aggressively when using personal bubble, so after the bubble has expired, wallride around her and knock her back into your team for them to focus down. Keep in mind that enemies protected by Zarya's bubbles will not be affected by your Soundwave. Sound Barrier can be a good or bad response to Graviton Surge depending on the situation and what other abilities it is combined with. Sound Barrier will likely do nothing against a Graviton Surge combined with a Hanzo's Dragon Strike, however it may save your team if it is combined with Genji's Dragonblade. If the Zarya uses Graviton Surge by herself without any additional firepower from her teammates, you can probably save Sound Barrier. (To be added)

    Bastion
While it may be tempting to dance around Bastion if you catch him roaming in Recon Configuration, he can quickly go into Sentry Configuration and shred through you if you give him the chance. Stay out of his view, especially if he's already set up in Sentry Configuration; even when trying to use Wall Ride to get around him, he can easily shoot you off the walls. (To be added)
    Icon-doomfist
    Doomfist
Doomfist's Rocket Punch can one-hit you if you subsequently hits a wall, and Rising Uppercut and Seismic Slam can significantly impair your mobility. However, wall riding far off the ground should make yourself a much tougher target for Doomfist to hit. A well-timed Soundwave could save teammates or yourself from any of his abilities, and his Meteor Strike is relatively easy to avoid with speed boost. (To be added)

    Icon-genji
    Genji
Your wall riding and speed boost can make you a difficult target against Genji's Shuriken. Deflect does not work against Soundwave, and any deflected Sonic projectiles are easy to avoid and deal low damage should they hit. An enemy Genji may instead choose to focus on your more vulnerable teammates such as Ana or Zenyatta, in which case you should assist with Soundwave and healing. Dragonblade can be dangerous, but a well-timed Sound Barrier can almost completely nullify this Ultimate. (To be added)

    McCree
You should keep your distance from McCree as his Flashbang and Fan the Hammer combo will almost certainly kill you. Use plenty of cover and move around fast to make yourself difficult to hit. Deadeye should be easy to avoid if you are close to cover and use speed boost. (To be added)
    Icon-mei
    Mei
Mei will impair your mobility if not outright freeze you if you are too close to her, so be sure to keep your distance. If she uses Blizzard, switch to speed boost and Amp It Up if necessary to get yourself and your teammates out of the area of effect. (To be added)
    Icon-pharah
    Pharah
Pharah can kill you with only two direct hits, so try to stay mobile or behind cover when she's around. Her Jump Jet can help her escape from being knocked off a cliff by Soundwave, so try to make other enemies a priority to knock off cliffs if possible. Your slow-moving projectiles will be hard to land on Pharah while she is airborne, so don't even attempt to engage; stick with your team and let them fend her off. Activating Soundwave prior to Pharah's Barrage can help your team survive its damage burst, but trying to activate it after she's started her attack won't do you any good, as the healing will come far too late. (To be added)
    Icon-reaper
    Reaper
Unlike most Damage heroes, Reaper will struggle to kill you by himself. While he has superior firepower at close range, you can push him away from yourself and your team with Soundwave. You can use Wall Ride and your healing/speed to stay safe from his attacks. A quick Sound Barrier can save your team from being slaughtered by Death Blossom. (To be added)

    Soldier: 76
(To be added) (To be added)
    Icon-sombra
    Sombra
Sombra is a strong counter to you as her Hack prevents you from healing or wall riding, leaving you extremely vulnerable. Preventing the hack by attacking her can be difficult with your slow projectiles. Furthermore, her EMP will remove the shields generated from Sound Barrier, effectively cancelling out the Ultimate and leaving your team hacked. Keeping your distance against Sombra is recommended, forcing her to focus on your teammates and rescuing them whenever necessary. If you know an EMP is coming, hiding and then casting your Sound Barrier after the EMP has been cast could save your team from being wiped. (To be added)
    Icon-symmetra
    Symmetra
Symmetra's Sentry Turrets can be extremely dangerous if you're caught off guard by them, as they usually damage you faster than you can heal yourself and will bring your impressive speed to a crawl. If Symmetra is about, curb back on your Wall Rides and instead let your team push through choke points to bait out Sentry Turrets. (To be added)
    Icon-torbjörn
    Torbjörn
Torbjörn's Rivet Gun can be particularly powerful in close range, so don't get too close to him. While his Molten Core is easy to avoid, his Turret can track you very well even when you are very far away, so be sure to prioritize taking it out first. (To be added)
    Icon-tracer
    Tracer
Tracer can easily Blink behind or through your team to focus you down. If Tracer is harassing you, use your Wall Ride to stay above her, where she'll have more difficulty gunning you down. Your goal is to not kill her, but to simply stay alive long enough for your team to either kill her or fend her off. (To be added)
    Icon-widowmaker
    Widowmaker
Widowmaker can one-shot you with a direct headshot, and despite Lúcio's speed, his movement can be particularly easy to track, especially when wall riding. Be sure to use plenty of cover and shields to minimize her impact. If there is an opportunity to get close to her, Lúcio has the advantage in close combat. (To be added)

    Lúcio
As you and an enemy Lúcio both have the ability to quickly move around with speed boost or heal up from sustained damage, it will be extremely difficult for either of you to kill the other should you run into each other alone. If there's a cliff nearby, it may be possible to knock the other Lúcio off with Soundwave, but be aware that the opposing Lúcio will be thinking the same thing. Otherwise, instead of wasting your time fighting Lúcio, regroup with your team who will be able to handle him better. (To be added)
    Icon-mercy
    Mercy
Mercy does not provide much threat to Lúcio as her only offensive weapon is Caduceus Blaster and it is low damage. Her Resurrect can be interrupted by Soundwave, so be sure to use that whenever the opportunity arises. (To be added)
    Icon-moira
    Moira
Moira is a difficult match-up for Lúcio, as her Biotic Grasp and Biotic Orb can make quick work of you even if you are healing. She can also easily escape situations with Fade, and Coalescence can hit you from afar and behind shields. It is recommended you get assistance from other team members when dealing with a Moira. (To be added)
    Icon-zenyatta
    Zenyatta
Although Zenyatta can deal high amounts of damage to you and even kill you with a well aimed charged shot, his lack of mobility and self-healing can make it a fairly matched fight. Try your best to speed boost while you see him charging his orbs and use Soundwave to either knock him off the map or away from his team while he's using his Transcendence. (To be added)

    Story

    Icon-Lucio
Come on, Let's bring it together!

Lúcio is an international celebrity who inspires social change through his music and actions.[2] He has a positive, up-beat attitude,[3] and is always looking towards the future.[4]

Lúcio wears hard-light skates that project hard-light "blades," allowing him to traverse any surface.[5]

    Background

I started small, just like you, by making changes in my favela. Did my best to make sure all the kids got healthy meals and all the libraries had books to lend. I surrounded myself with good people who also wanted to make a difference. I did what I could to make sure my people had healthy bodies and healthy minds, so we could work together to solve our problems.
    ~ Lúcio
    Lucio-children

    Lúcio with children

Lúcio Correia dos Santos grew up in Rio de Janeiro, in a poor and crowded favela that was hit hard by the financial upheaval following the Omnic Crisis.[2] During his youth, Lúcio's first love was hockey, but he also found time to play football with the other kids in Rio.[6] He worked with like-minded people to help improve conditions, such as helping ensure the children got healthy meals and access to library books.[7]

As Brazil began the long process of recovery, Lúcio wanted to find a way to lift the spirits of those around him. He found his answer in music and its power to bring people together and even help them forget their troubles, if only for a short time. He performed on street corners, in block parties, and as he got older, at a string of legendary underground shows.

But Lúcio's close-knit community was thrown into chaos when the multinational Vishkar Corporation secured a contract to redevelop large tracts of the city. Lúcio and his neighbors had been told that the development would improve their lives. However, that promise never became a reality. Vishkar imposed controls on the residents in the name of building a more orderly society: enforcing curfews, cracking down on what the company perceived as lawless behavior, and exploiting the populace as a cheap labor force.

Lúcio wouldn't stand for it. He stole Vishkar sonic technology that had been used to suppress the people[2] (initially invented by Lucio's father, although it was owned and patented by Vishkar),[8] and he converted it into a tool to rally them to action.[2] In Lúcio's words, "when my father got mixed up with Vishkar, that's when I really started to see the world for what it was."[7] In a popular uprising, Lúcio and his allies drove Vishkar out of their neighborhoods.[2] He reflected that his father had designed the sonic technology to make the world a better place, and in using it to help Rio's people, he'd fulfilled the promise his father had made to them. In the end, he doubted that his father would have regretted creating the technology.[7]

Lúcio's leadership made him a star overnight and a symbol for positive social change. His music skyrocketed in popularity. Whereas he had once performed locally, he was now filling arenas across the world.[2] He built up a career doing live shows, and became something of a national icon in Brazil.[9] With his newfound fame, Lúcio realized that he had an opportunity to make a difference and change the world for the better.[2] He obtained a condo in Ipanema, where he had the whole eighth floor to himself. He spent his time there making music. However, his actual home continued to be in the favela, where he tried to spend as much time as possible.[7]

    Synaesthesia

My heart beats for Brazil. I get inspired by the people here. Their struggles. Their triumphs. I want to share that energy—the energy of their lives—with the rest of the world.
    ~ Lúcio

    Lúcio at a concert

Lúcio embarked on a world tour to promote his debut album, Synaesthesia Auditiva, which he spent two years working on. He released two tracks beforehand, and was delighted with the positive reception.[9]

    Numbani

Lúcio was set to give a live concert in Numbani.[10]

    New Year's Eve

Adverts in King's Row during the winter holiday season indicated that Lúcio was to give a New Year's Eve concert.[11]

Lúcio and Tracer battle Null Sector

Lúcio was present at Rio when the city came under attack by Null Sector. He sent out a transmission saying that he'd hold them off for as long as he could. He fought alongside members of the newly reformed Overwatch in getting to Null Sector's command ship. Afterwards, he apparently joined the group.[12]

    Trivia

    Lucio-cncpt2

    Early Lúcio concept art

    • Lúcio is intended to be an embodiment of the Overwatch setting as a whole. He is said to be the response to Tracer's declaration that "the world could always use more heroes."[13]
    • Lucio's kit may have been partially inspired by Iris, a hero created for the original Prometheus pitch meeting.
    • Lúcio apparently knows enough of the pro-gaming scene to be a fan of D.Va. She in turn is a fan of his music, and has apparently bought his album.
    • An early concept of Lúcio featured turntables on his hips and equalizer parts that would light up when he played music. The developers toned down parts of his outfit in later versions because they felt the visuals would be too distracting during gameplay.[14]
      • A skin called "Equalizer" inspired on this concept art was added to the Archives Event in 2018
    • Blizzard has officially published the two music tracks passively played with Lúcio's Crossfade ability. "We Move Together As One" is the track played for speed boosts, and "Rejuvenescência" plays when Lúcio switches to his healing aura.
    • Lúcio was announced as the third Overwatch character to be added to the Heroes of the Storm roster.[15] "Sonhos Ômnicos (Extended Mix)" was published to Twitter on February 16, 2017 to celebrate his introduction to Heroes of the Storm.[16] "Nexus Remixes" of "Rejuvenescência" and "We Move Together As One" appeared in Heroes of the Storm as login screen music during Lúcio's release window, and were also uploaded to the official Heroes of the Storm YouTube channel.[17][18]
    • A Lúcio-themed hoodie is available from JINX.[19]
    • A Lúcio statue will go on sale in Q3 2019.[20]

    Developer Comments
Lúcio has often felt like a must-pick due to his raw healing output and the versatility of providing a speed bonus to your entire team. The goal of these changes is to keep those elements feeling strong, but making them harder to apply to everyone on your team at all times. The end result is that he should feel stronger with teams that he can stay close to but not as strong when on teams with heroes that are often spread out (such as Pharah, Widow, Genji, etc). Much of Lúcio’s character power was tied up in his large passive auras, which caused other elements of his kit to be weakened over time in an attempt to balance him. Now that his auras are more focused it will allow them to be much stronger and allow Lúcio to be more active in his role.

    Hero Balance Change
    • Ultimate costs have been increased by 25% for all heroes
    Developer Comment
Game-changing ultimate abilities were coming up a bit too frequently. This change helps keep them in check while still allowing them to be powerful.
    • Amp It Up
      • Healing per second has been decreased by 10%
    Developer Comment
Lúcio’s overall healing output has always been on par with (or even higher) than Overwatch’s other healers, and his other benefits made him an almost mandatory pick.

    General Updates
    General
    • When activating the "Needs healing" communication while targeting a teammate, Ana, Lúcio, Mercy, and Zenyatta will now tell allies to group up to receive healing. A marker will also appear above the player's head, allowing teammates to locate the healer more quickly.
    Hero Balance Update
    • Ultimates that consume the ultimate meter when activated will now drain the meter more quickly (.25 second instead of 1 second)
    • Reverted a recent change that reduced the size of heroes' projectiles
    • Most hero abilities will no longer interrupt quick melee attacks
    • Ultimate abilities will now interrupt quick melee attacks
    Developer Comments
Altering the size of projectiles in flight had too many unintended side effects to keep in the game, at least in its current form. We will continue watching this and make additional changes if necessary. We’re also making quick melee more consistent when interacting with enemy abilities.
    • Amp It Up
      • The boosting of movement speed has been decreased by 30% (from a 100% increase to a 70% increase)
    Developer Comments
Thanks to Lúcio's speed increase, he was almost a must pick in every lineup.
