Maglev technology is developed
Lev rims are a form of maglev technology.
Background[]
Prototype lev rims were invented by Dr. Siebren de Kuiper before the Omnic Crisis. While maglev technology had existed before this, it had previously only been available to corporations and governments. de Kuiper's prototype meant that by the Crisis, the technology was used by cars[1] and hovercycles.[2] It has been commented that if not for his works, vehicles might have used fossil fuels for decades longer.[1]

- Throughout the Overwatch universe, numerous hover-vehicles have been seen, levitating just above the ground (these are apparently distinct from the sky traffic seen in locations such as London and New York). Payloads are also commonly levitated, be they vehicles or other devices.
- Hover vehicles were not present in Project Titan. The developers made a concious decision to implement the concept in Overwatch, but the vehicles had to be recognizable to players.[3]
