Lijiang Tower (漓江塔) is a Control map in Overwatch 2. It was one of the 12 maps included in Overwatch's release on May 24th, 2016.

Background[ | ]

Lijiang Tower was built in the heart of a modern Chinese metropolis, its busy streets lined with stores, gardens, restaurants, and famous night markets. The tower itself is home to one of the leading companies in China's state-of-the-art space industry, Lucheng Interstellar, an organization with a long pioneering history that is currently pushing the boundaries of space exploration.

Garden[ | ]

Pathing[ | ]

Garden has three main routes to the objective:

  • The bridge, which provides opportunity for dive compositions, but any slow-moving heroes run the risk of getting eliminated by knockback.
  • The back route, which has more cover and is less viable for knockback kills, but provides closer quarters for combat.
  • Directly through the middle of the map, which is only accessible to characters that can jump gaps, but is a great route for flanker duos like Mercy and Pharah.

Heroes[ | ]

  • Heroes with knockback abilities can easily get environmental kills on the bridges out of spawn, the gap surrounding the objective, and the top-most section of the map.
  • Mercy is able to hide behind the rock near the bridge to keep her Resurrect safe.
  • The two windows on either side of the objective can be used for surprise attacks by small flanker heroes such as Genji, Tracer, or Pharah.

Trivia[ | ]

  • Lijiang Tower (漓江塔) largely resembles the overall aesthetics of Chongqing, China. The map is also named similarly to two other real-world places: Lijiang (丽江), a city in the Yunnan province, and Li Jiang (漓江), a river in China's Guangxi province. Chinese Versions of Overwatch 2 indicate the latter is the origin of inspiration because of the matching Chinese letters.[1][2].
  • A spacesuit with the name "Hongyu Wu" appears on the Control Center map with text above it that reads 英雄不死 ("Heroes Never Die"). This is a tribute to an Overwatch fan that tragically died a day before the game's release.[3]
  • On Night Market, a newspaper with a picture of Mei in her Yeti Hunter skin can be seen.
  • A friend of Mei's from her time in graduate school works at the tower.[4]
