MacReady was an engineer working for Overwatch.
Story[ | ]
MacReady was one of the scientists stationed at Ecopoint: Antarctica, alongside Opara, Arrhenius, Adams, Mei, and Torres.[2] Disaster struck the station when it was hit by a polar storm,[3] damaging the station's solar array.[4] Cut off from the outside world, the scientists were left stranded in the damaged facility. As their supplies dwindled, they entered cryostasis in a last-ditch effort to survive until a rescue attempt could be made.[3] However, the pods malfunctioned, leaving Mei as the sole survivor of the incident.[2]

- MacReady's name may be a reference to R.J. MacReady, the protagonist of the film The Thing.
- The Fallout 4 companion Robert Joseph "RJ" MacCready, named after the character in The Thing, is voiced by Matthew Mercer, the voice actor for Cassidy in Overwatch.
- A calendar can be found next to Mei's desk on the Antarctic Peninsula map, stating that MacReady's birthday is on a Monday.
