Malevento is an upcoming Deathmatch map for Overwatch.

Official Description

Our newest Free-For-All Map is Malevento, a peaceful Italian hilltop town with a cursed past!

Battle along the cliff's edge for dominance of the majestic Duomo di Malevento. Circle your opponents beneath the mournful stone eyes of Caterina Pastore, a Renaissance painter with a tragic past, or plot the downfall of your enemies in the mysterious safe house.

Will you find victory in these twisting streets, or will the curse of Malevento claim you too?[1]

Background

Malevento is a peaceful Italian town, though is believed to be cursed.[1] Whatever the truth of the myth, in the modern day, it serves as a base for Talon.[2]

Development

Malevento was planned to be released in July, 2021; specifically on the day after the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing filed a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard. As a consequence, the map's release was postponed.[2]

Malevento went on the public test realm in August, 2021, and will become fully integrated in the game on September 28.[2] The map release was pushed ahead, as the original plan was that a narrative arc for McCree would be implemented. However, due to ongoing controversy surrounding the character and Blizzard as a whole, the arc was postponed, and Malevento was fast-forwarded to fill the gap.[3]
