The mayor of Rio de Janeiro is the current government official responsible for overseeing the city of Rio.

The mayor addressed proposals from both the Vishkar Corporation and Calado in regards to the redevelopment of Rio. Despite the protests of Vishkar representative Satya Vaswani, she was inclined to side with Calado—not only did Mr. Calado have a history with Rio, but Vishkar's proposal included the favelas, which Rio already had problems with.
It didn't come to pass however, as the Calado building was destroyed in an explosion. Months later, the mayor presided over the opening of Rio's new city center, with Vishkar having secured the contract.[1]
