The Menu, otherwise known as the Lobby, is the first display shown when loading into the game. It has a background related to the current season theme or event and various buttons that allow the player to navigate around the game. If there are new items in the Shop, small "New" text will appear next to the button in a small yellow box. This also appears next to the battle pass button if the player unlocked any new rewards in the battle pass, as well as next to the Social button if the player has any new friend requests. == Main Buttons == These buttons are the primary focus point of menu screens. They allow the user to display between important pages in the game, such as the Shop Shop and Battle Pass Battle Pass. These buttons are big and colored white, always located in the middle of the left side of the menu screen. === Play === Playlist The Play button leads to the playlist. It's where players can access Game Modes such as Unranked, Competitive and Arcade. This button is always at the top of the main buttons on the menu screen, typically below any event buttons. When searching for a game, this button will instead display Searching..., and if you're in the middle of a Comptitive match and leave, this button will instead show Rejoin Match, not allowing the player to join any other games until the match ends. === Heroes === Hero Gallery The Heroes section, otherwise known as the Hero Gallery, is where players can equip Cosmetics to Heroes. It allows them to view items they've unlocked and spend Coins Coin or Credits Credits to purchase specific cosmetics, including ones that may not be in the Shop. === Shop === Shop The Shop is the in-game store where the player can purchase cosmetics using Coins Coins or Credits Credits. From the shop, you can access the Seasonal Shop, Mythic Shop and Overwatch League Shop. === Battle Pass === Battle Pass The Battle Pass section connects players directly to the current season's battle pass page. The battle pass allows players to unlock various cosmetics and earn Credits Credits, Coins Coins and Mythic Prisms Mythic Prisms. Sometimes, the background of the battle pass page is changed to a background more relevant to the current seasons theme, if not though it'll be a basic blue gradient. == Secondary Buttons == These buttons are the smaller white buttons found below the main buttons. They're the sections of the user interface accessible on the top-right of the screen through buttons. === Social === The Social tab leads to the "Friends" page. From here, the player can interact with their friends and groups, as well as view Recent playerse and the teams in their last played game. === Career Profile === The Career Profile button leads to the Overview of the player's profile, where players can see their Progression level, the amount of time played in Game Modes, their most played heroes, basic role statistics and also Hero comparison. From here, the player can also go to various pages, such as their Progression page, Statistics, History, Achievements and access the Customization page wheere they can change Player Icons, Name Cards and Player Titles. === Challenges === Challenges The Challenges button leads to the players Challenges. From here, they can access their daily, weekly, seasonal, lifetime and hero challenges, as well as view any event challenges. === Progression === Progression The Progression button leads directly to the Progression tab of the players Career Profile. It'll display the player's progression showcase and allows players to view progression statistics for specific heroes, including their badges. The Roles and Game Modes sections are similar, letting you see your progression levels for your Roles and Game Modes. This button was added alongside the release of Player Progression in Season 6. == Event Buttons == Event buttons are found above the Main buttons, being similar in shape and size but orange instead of white. They link to the event cards of any ongoing Limited-time event, Seasonal events or any new Game Modes. These event cards display details about the ongoing events, such as any relevant Event Challenges, and display the dates the event start and end, stating how much time is left for the event. It'll also have a link to any of the event Game Modes for players to directly access. == Other Tabs == These tabs are located on the right side of the menu screen and can be collapsed by pressing the "Hide Panel" button on the bottom-right of the menu screen. === News Tab === News is found on the right of a Menu screen. It displays any currently relevant media, as well as any news that Blizzard want all players to see. It's been known to link and show any newly released Cinematics, as well as advertise for certain Shop bundles, including the Premium Battle Pass. It also links to any new interface features, such as when the Mythic Shop was introduced. Displayed news is given its own separate display tab which the user can switch between with small buttons to the left of the News Tab. These mini tabs will also scroll between each other when left idle. === Challenge Tab === Introduced in Season 13, this tab is found at the bottom right of the menu screen any displays any 3 current event challenges, from an active event. It also displays the rewards for completing the listed challenges. In the header, it states how many days are left of that event, as well as what the event is. Pressing the tab will lead you to directly to the event challenges. == Menu Screens == Menu screens are different with each season. They feature different background images, with some being animated. Menu screens can also have music themes with them. Overtime, the display has varied with different sizes, fonts and buttons, however the general format of the menu screen never changed. === How to Change Menu Screens === Menu screens have associated background IDs. These ID's can be used in a launcher application to change the background display of the menu screen on launch. Changing the background will only change the background and nothing else: it will not change the user interface or any of the buttons for the screen. If the inserted code doesn't work, it will instead display a completely black background. ==== Battle.net Launcher ==== For the Battle.net Launcher, next to the Play button on the Overwatch 2 game page, press the gear-icon to access settings. From here, go to "Game Settings" and tick the box next to 'Additional command line arguments'. Then enter in the box below the code line for the background you want, in the format --lobbyMap=<Background ID>. Background ID's can be found below. ==== Steam Launcher ==== Right-click Overwatch 2 in your games library, and select 'Properties'. In 'General', under 'Launch Options' enter the code line for the background you want, in the format --lobbyMap=Background ID.
