Overwatch: Classic is a limited-time event in Overwatch 2 Season 13: Spellbinder. From November 12th to December 2nd, this event will feature a limited-time game mode styled around the original Overwatch 1, featuring 6v6, no hero limits, and a return of old abilities.[1]
Details[ | ]
The gamemode will bring the player back to Patch 1.0 of Overwatch 1, featuring the 21 original heroes that were available on the game's release, along with long lost abilities such as Mercy's Team resurrection or Torbjörn's level 1 and 2 turrets, and will return Symmetra to the Support role.
There will be multiple Overwatch: Classic events running, with each being a newer patch than the previous one. The player will be able to revisit, among other things, the first version of Overwatch from 2016, 2017's Moth meta, and the infamous GOATS team composition.
Gameplay[ | ]
The gamemode will be played on the original 12 launch Maps from Overwatch 1. This includes Assault maps that were removed from Quick Play in Overwatch 2.
However, the maps aren't as they were during the 1.0 Patch, they instead featured any changes and reworks done in Overwatch 2. This is also true for things such as match timing and how elevators function.
These maps include:
Heroes[ | ]
The game mode will feature the original 21 heroes featured on release of Overwatch 1, along with how their abilities were back then.
To keep to the classic Overwatch feel, all heroes during the mode were automatically equipped with their original Overwatch 1 skins, not allowing players to change them. Also, the original Overwatch 1 Heroic Highlight intros were used during hero selection and the original hero icons replaced the Overwatch 2 icons in the Elimination Feed, during hero selection, and in other areas during of the game mode.
On release, Heroes were split into one of four roles: Tank, Offense, Defense and Support. During hero selection, the heroes were once again split into these roles, with the Defense role icon () being displayed for Defense heroes.
Notable Hero Differences:
- Quick Melee again deals 30 damage.
- All hero Health Pools are reverted to how they were on release.
- The global projectile changes from the Season 9 Patch aren't applied.

- Deploy Turret is replaced with Build Turret, which allows to place an upgradeable turret instead of throwing it. It starts with Level 1 (low damage and fire rate, 150 HP), which can then be upgraded to Level 2 by swinging his Forge Hammer on it 5 times (only while it's full health; deals medium damage, fires faster and has 300 HP), and to Level 3 by using Molten Core (only while it's a Level 2 turret; has a faster fire rate and fires rockets, has 800 HP).
- Molten Core is reverted to how it originally worked, upgrading his health, speed and level 2 turret to level 3.
- Widow's Kiss (ADS) has faster charging shots, no damage falloff and deals more damage on bodyshot, but the scoping-in animation is slower. The ammo is decreased to 30, but each shot consumes 3 ammo (down from 35 total clip and 5 ammo per shot in OW2).

- Lúcio cannot jump from wall to wall using Wall Ride.
- Sound Barrier gives only 500 Overhealth (down from 750 in OW2)
- Soundwave consumes 4 ammo and can't be used while reloading. It will consume the remaining ammo if Lúcio has less than 4.

Trivia[ | ]
- During the mode, certain ability call-outs weren't correctly tuned to how it was during Overwatch 1. For example, some heroes, such as Symmetra and Mercy, when announcing their ultimate charge would use the Overwatch 2 voice lines that say the wrong ultimate.
- The heroes were still built on top of their Overwatch 2 counterparts. They still say their OW2 voice lines sometimes. Bastion often uses his Reconfigure voice lines despite them not being present in Overwatch 1.
- When Symmetra used Photon Shield on allies, heroes automatically thanked her.
- When allies collected Torbjörn's Armor Packs, heroes automatically thanked him.
