Overwatch World Cup 2018 was the third Overwatch World Cup held. The finals were held in BlizzCon 2018 on November, resulting in South Korea Team South Korea winning the championship.

JJoNaK from South Korea Team South Korea received the tournament's T-Mobile MVP Award.

Tournament details[]

Format[]

  • Participants[1]
    • 24 teams/nations in total were invited to participate
      • Four countries, USA, France, South Korea and Thailand, are chosen to host the qualifiers and are automatically invited.
      • Remaining 20 slots will be distributed based on the average Skill Rating (SR) of the top 150 players of the country.
    • National committees arrange tryouts to select the players for their country.
      • Committees consist of a general manager, selected by Blizzard, a coach, selected by the nation's top 150 players, and a community lead, selected by all players in the nation.
  • Qualifiers[2]
    • 4 single round robin groups of 6 teams each, played at Incheon, Los Angeles, Bangkok and Paris
    • Top 2 teams from each group proceed to main event at BlizzCon
    • All matches are 4 map sets. If both teams win 2 maps, an additional fifth map will be played.
  • Main event[2]
    • Single-elimination bracket of 8 teams
      • Third place match will be played
    • Quarter- and semifinals and bronze match are Bo5, grand final is bo7[3]

Prize Pool[]

Total prize pool amounts to $488,000 USD. Teams participating in the qualifiers will receive $15,000 USD each, and teams that qualify for the main event receive an additional $16,000 USD each.[2]
