Quick Play: Hacked is a recurring limited time 'variant' of Quick Play in Overwatch 2. This mode features unique changes to gameplay which typically affect aspects of game modes or heroes as a whole. This mode is found in the Unranked playlist, and either replaces the usual Quick Play mode or can be found alongside the Quick Play mode.
Story[ | ]
Sombra decided to change up the game when she was bored. She decided to change the rules of Quick Play to make it "more... interesting for a little while". She calls these changes "Quick Play: Hacked!".[1]
Since her first hack, Sombra returns every now and then to change up the Quick Play rules for a short time.
Notes[ | ]
- Quick Play: Hacked was introduced to help Team 4 collect data on what changes players would like for gameplay in Overwatch 2.[2]
- For "Quick Play: Hacked", Team 4 decided to implement these gameplay changes directly into Quick Play, rather than bring back the Experimental card, as they stated the old Experimental mode was only used by 18% of the player base, with most only playing a single game in it before returning to Quick Play. So instead, they created "Quick Play: Hacked" so they can get long-term data and feedback on the tests. [3]
- It was stated that, due to feedback from the first Quick Play: Hacked - Quicker Play, future Quick Play: Hacked that introduce more disruptive gameplay changes may be in a separate card to Quick Play, to give players the option to play normal Overwatch 2 if they want. [3]
Modes[ | ]
Quicker Play[ | ]
Quick Play: Hacked - Quicker Play happened during season 8 of Overwatch 2 and lasted from January 12 to January 14, 2024. This was the first Quick Play: Hacked and was the only one with an accompanying article which featured specific details of changes, and a F.A.Q section.
Changes[ | ]
During Quicker Play, game modes in Unranked were designed to be faster. These changes were only to the game modes, and had no changes to any heroes, besides respawn changes.
The following are exact details of changes made:
- Respawning times are now 75% of their original time.
- Payloads in Escort and Hybrid maps will move 60% faster.
- Taking control of the objective Point in Hybrid is 40% faster than normal.
- Taking control of the objective point in Control is 40% faster than normal, and scoring the capture progress percentage is 80% faster.
- Taking control of the objective point in Flashpoint is 20% faster than normal, and scoring the capture progress percentage is 40% faster.
- When you play an Escort, Hybrid, or Push map, the initial match time has been reduced to 70% of the original time, and any time extensions are also reduced to 70% of the total time added.
These changes only applied to all players who play in Role Queue and Open Queue Quick Play modes during the duration of the event and returned to normal after January 14. Competitive Play and Arcade modes were enot affected by these changes.
Double Trouble[ | ]
Quick Play: Hacked - Double Trouble happened during season 9 of Overwatch 2 and lasted from March 18 to March 19, 2024. Lifting some restrictions in hero selection, this Quick Play: Hacked had no changes to game modes, but instead on team compositions.
Changes[ | ]
During Double Trouble, each team could have up to two of the same hero, allowing for two Moira, two Tracer, or two Mercy. These changes did mean that in Role Queue, Tanks had no difference, as there's only 1 tank per team.
The following are exact details of changes:
- Double Trouble will take over the Quick Play ruleset for only 24 hours and will be available until 11:00 AM PDT on Tuesday, March 19.
- Team can have up to two of the same hero at any time.
- In Role Queue, there is still only one player playing the Tank role.
- All other rules for both Quick Play and Role Queue remain the same.
Pickable Passives[ | ]
Quick Play: Hacked - Pickable Passives is the most recent Quick Play: Hacked event. It occurred during season 11 of Overwatch 2 and lasted from July 15, to July 16 2024. This time, the mode added new ways to customize your play, with heroes having the options to choose an additional passive to boost their gameplay.
Changes[ | ]
During Pickable Passives, each player could choose an additional Passive ability in addition to their normal passives. These passives were unique for each Role and could be changed mid-game, in the Respawn room or while Respawning.
