This is a hard land. We are a hard people. Proud of our strength. Again and again our enemies have tried to destroy us. But we will never fall.

Russia is a Eurasian country. The country maintains an athletics program.[1]

The Russians are a proud people, and take pride in their history of having endured against the omnics.[2]

Russia was a battlefield during the Omnic Crisis, and was one of the countries hit hardest by the war.[3] Overwatch had a minimal presence within the country, so Russia had to defend itself on its own.[4] In this, they were successful, as human-piloted Svyatogor mechs were deployed to battle the omnic armies.[4] In Siberia, the Russian Defense Forces were able to defeat the omnic forces and shut down their omnium. However, the region was devastated as a result.[1] During the rebuilding process, Russia rode the wave of the mechanized labor industry’s revitalization and entered a period of rapid growth.[3]

Russia, once again a battlefield

Russia became a battleground once more in the Second Omnic Crisis.[5] Facing renewed omnic aggression from the Siberian omnium, the country ordered that Volskaya Industries increase Svyatagor production in order to deal with the threat.[6] Propaganda was employed to remind the populace of the continuing omnic threat,[4] and a coordinated offensive was made against the omnics,[5] while its Svyatagors guarded its cities.[3] The conflict has since claimed over 15,000 lives, with the international community reluctant to intervene.[5] The RDF was given control over territory east of Krasnoyarsk, Siberia,[7] as part of the Krasnoyarsk Front.[8][9]

With news of unauthorized Overwatch activities at a museum, the Kremlin joined the international community in denouncing the vigilante actions.[10]

Recently, the war in Russia shifted in the omnics' favor, as the Siberian omnics breached the Krasnoyarsk Front. RDF forces were ordered to pull back to Krasnoyarsk.[9]

  • Russia's flag was revealed to be the same as the real-world Russian Federation in the loading screen for the Overwatch map Volskaya Industries.
  • Russia's role in the first Omnic Crisis appears to mirror that of the Soviet Union in the Second World War—in both cases, Russia/the USSR endures the lion's share of casualties, and both experience quick economic recovery in the war's aftermath.
