Stone By Stone is the fourth Overwatch short story. The Symmetra's Restoration Challenge was released to coincide with it.
The story is included in Overwatch: Short Story Collection.
Description[ | ]
When Vishkar Corporation inadvertently destroys a sacred statue of Aurora, the first sentient omnic, the brilliant hard-light architect Satya Vaswani—known also as Symmetra—is sent in to avert a PR disaster. She’s been instructed to give the village whatever it wants—but she doesn’t know what that might be. When she accepts Tekhartha Zenyatta’s invitation to stay at the temple and learn about Aurora and the omnic faith, Symmetra embarks on a journey of understanding, compassion, and acceptance that results in the perfectly imperfect gift to the village, to Zenyatta...and to herself.[1]

Notes[ | ]
The initial idea for the story was "Vishkar Corporation has damaged something precious to the omnics, and Symmetra has to figure out how to fix the problem." The idea remained consistent throughout the story's development. To prepare for the story, Golden familiarized herself with Symmetra and Mondatta's lore, and talked with some members of the game team and a few of her fellow writers who had worked with the characters. Golden also did research on temple architecture and protocol in India, as well as various faiths and rituals.[2]
