Sudden Death, in Overwatch, is a feature in Capture the Flag and a removed feature in Competitive Play. Sudden Death occurs at the end of the regular play time or Overtime if the score is tied.

Capture the Flag[]

In Capture the Flag, Sudden Death places both capture zones much closer to the center of the map and requiring only a single capture to determine victory.

Competitive Play[]

Sudden Death was removed from Competitive Play in Overwatch Competitive Season 2 on September 2, 2016 and was replaced with Time Bank rules. In Competitive Play, Sudden Death was be played as a single, abbreviated round: if the attackers were able to capture the objective, they won; otherwise, the defenders would win.
