== Official Character Art from the Press Kit == [http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/4482-Overwatch-Press-Kit#_ Here is the Press Kit, I think it would work better than those tiny 3D models that are on the pages already.] == Official tips vs. useful ones == What happens if normal usage of the character differs from official tips? For instance, Hanzo is better/used more at mid-range than long-range, I think. Should we have a separate section for player tips? Or maybe editor's notes if we disagree with a specific official tip? --[[User:Fuzzlepuzzle|Fuzzlepuzzle]] ([[User talk:Fuzzlepuzzle|talk]]) *As far as I'm aware, those official tips are severely outdated. Those short bits at the start might actually date as far back as BlizzCon 2014, in current official sources I couldn't find those tips anywhere. I'd suggest changing the headings from "Official Tips" to something like "General Tips" and edit those things freely. --[[User:Krupam|Krupam]] ([[User talk:Krupam|talk]])-- **Sounds good to me. :) Most (all?) characters have strategy sections anyway, maybe we could get rid of the tips section as it currently works entirely? --[[User:Fuzzlepuzzle|Fuzzlepuzzle]] ([[User talk:Fuzzlepuzzle|talk]]) 21:35, 18 May 2016 (UTC) ***I think that would be fine, but I'd wait to see what others have to say about it. --[[User:Krupam|Krupam]] ([[User talk:Krupam|talk]])-- == Voice actors == I've added voice actors with sources to Genji, McCree, Tracer, Hanzo, D.Va, Reinhardt, Winston, and Zenyatta's info boxes. IMDb and Behind the Voice Actors have voice actors for all the other characters, but that's the only source I can find. We know IMDb/BtVA's ''names'' are correct because they show up in the credits, but we don't know if they're linked to the right characters, because the credits don't say. Should we just go ahead and trust IMDb, or wait for each character's confirmation from devs/VAs, or what? --[[User:Fuzzlepuzzle|Fuzzlepuzzle]] ([[User talk:Fuzzlepuzzle|talk]]) 23:58, 18 May 2016 (UTC) == More ability information on hero pages? == On the hero pages, there is currently little room for adding useful ability information. Abilities have their name and some official description listed, complemented by an "Ability Breakdown" table (that is mostly empty space because many abilities do not use the same statistics). Detailed ability information is instead located on pages for the specific abilities. Many of these pages seem to contain little more than a duplicate of the information in the first table: name and description. This makes it tiresome to read up on all the details of a heroes abilities. Would it not be better to fit all ability information on the hero page? Basic but important statistics like damage numbers can be displayed in an overview, and more in-depth stats can be displayed under something like a spoiler tag. For example, something like how it is done on the League of Legends Wikia: http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Veigar [[User:Ecen Silver|Ecen Silver]] ([[User talk:Ecen Silver|talk]]) 03:05, 31 May 2016 (UTC) :That sounds good to me, if you know how to make a template for something like that and want to get started, please feel free. I've set up the Tabber extension, which should be usable in the near future, and we can maybe combine some other things to make the [[Heroes]] pages a lot more viable in the near future. If you have any other specific questions or need anything, let me know! --[[User:Z3ther|Z3ther]] ([[User talk:Z3ther|talk]]) 19:31, 31 May 2016 (UTC) ::Alright, great! I've been looking into making a template but haven't come up with anything yet, show/hide functionality seems difficult without javascript or css. Will continue to tinker though. Not sure what most of our extensions can do yet! And Tabber seems very useful indeed. --[[User:Ecen Silver|Ecen]] ([[User talk:Ecen Silver|talk]]) 18:25, 1 June 2016 (UTC) I've created [[Template:Ability_details]] that should be able to be used for containing ability information on the hero page. I've added a preview of some of Torbjörn's abilities using this template at [[Talk:Torbjörn]]. Note that there are some problems with the template that I haven't been able to fix yet. --[[User:Ecen Cronzeton|Ecen]] ([[User talk:Ecen Cronzeton|talk]]) 20:51, 2 June 2016 (UTC) == Original research and referring to it == Wikipedia does not allow for original research. Here on the other hand, I assume that we do allow for original research (I cannot see how we could get any detailed ability information otherwise). However, I feel that we need to be able to mark data as original research if it is. Ideally I think there should be some info on who has done the research, when it was done and how. Now, I have not been able to come up with a way to easily include all that as a reference so for the time being I will probably just add something like <code><nowiki><ref>Last confirmed as of yyyy-mm-dd.</ref></nowiki></code> to data I add or confirm myself. Thoughts on this? [[User:Ecen Silver|Ecen]] ([[User talk:Ecen Silver|talk]]) 18:59, 31 May 2016 (UTC) == Blocking hero pages == Guys, I think we should start to consider blocking certain pages from being edited by anons. Especially the most vulnerable ones, like Hero pages. Vandalism hasn't gone extreme yet, but I'd rather cut it off before it gets out of hand, and I feel like we've already reached the point where we get a few shitposters a day, and I don't want to see them being in a broken state more often than fixed. <br>If anons want to say anything that isn't a pile of nonsense, they have the Talk pages for it. --[[User:Krupam|Krupam]] ([[User talk:Krupam|talk]])-- :This sounds reasonable in my mind. Surely those who actually contribute won't mind having to log in. --[[User:Ecen Silver|Ecen]] ([[User talk:Ecen Silver|talk]]) 18:35, 1 June 2016 (UTC) == Hero pages: Duplicate content between #Abilities and #Strategy == I am seeing a lot of duplicate content between abilities and strategy, I am going to attempt to remove the ability descriptions and number information from strategy so there is less duplicated information [[User:MomoRuns|MomoRuns]] ([[User talk:MomoRuns|talk]]) 19:12, 5 May 2020 (UTC) == Minor error == Sorry if I'm doing this incorrectly, but there's an error in the list of heroes grouped by release date. "Cassidy" was "McCree" upon release, and (AFAIK) throughout all of Overwatch 1 == Minor Error == Under the list that states the order of characters added, the symbol next to Lifeweaver should be the green "support" symbol, but it's currently the yellow "tank" symbol instead. == Character colors == I wasn't sure where else to put this, but I have a suggestion - maybe in the character infoboxes, we can add a field that shows the characters' hero gallery hexcode colors? Maybe even show old ones from when they changed somehow? [[User:Aepokk Vulpex|Aepokk Vulpex]] ([[User talk:Aepokk Vulpex|talk]]) 18:52, 26 April 2023 (UTC) ==Origins== Don't have time and I suck at tables, but the 'hero origins' need to be corrected in that: *Zenyatta and Ramattra shouldn't have their origin as Nepal. There's no evidence that either of them are of Nepalese nationality (certainly Ramattra isn't), or that they were built in Nepal either. Or if they have to be listed as Nepalese, then Bastion should be listed as German by the same criteria since it's where he reactivated (or Wrecking Ball should be Australian since it's where he landed). *Similarly, Echo shouldn't be listed as Singaporean. The only claim of Singapore being her point of origin is that it's Mina Liao's nationality, but that doesn't mean Echo's Singaporean herself. If you absolutely had to assign a national origin to Echo, then it should be Norwegian, since she was built in a facility in Oslo, Norway. It's like saying that if I'm born in Country X, and build a sapient robot in Country Y, then the robot is of X nationality because of my origin rather than its own. *Pharah's flag should be Egyptian/Canadian (if only one can fit, then definitely keep it as Egyptian). *Maybe have the HLC flag for Winston and Wrecking Ball, don't know if that would work though. So, um, yeah. Don't have time, suck at tables, but I'd argue that the following changes should be made.[[User:Hawki|Hawki]] ([[User talk:Hawki|talk]]) 11:55, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
