Is Bastion an omnic?[]
From the very beginning it was stated that omnics are a special type of robots, and I couldn't find any instance of the term being used to describe Bastion. --Krupam (talk)--
- Most omnics seem to be based on the humanoid model (e.g. Zenyatta), but Bastion seems to be an omnic, bearing in mind the following:
- His backstory states "Originally created for peacekeeping purposes, Bastion robot units possessed the unique ability to rapidly reconfigure themselves into an assault-cannon mode. But during the Omnic Crisis, they were turned against their human makers, forming the bulk of the omnics' rebel army. Following the resolution of the crisis, nearly all of them were destroyed or disassembled. To this day, Bastion units still symbolize the horrors of the conflict."
At the least, they were with the omnics. Secondly, from the South Korean front:
- "Twenty years ago, South Korea was attacked by a colossal omnic monstrosity that rose from the depths of the East China Sea."
We've seen multiple robot types in pages related to the Omnic Crisis, but this outright confirms that the term "omnic" can apply to more than just the humanoid model. Finally, Zarya states to Bastion:
- "I have destroyed more of your kind than you want to know."
It seems that Bastion is most likely an omnic. We know for sure that omnics outside the common model exist, and Zarya refers to him in the sense of "your kind." It's technically possible that she's referring to Bastion combat units specifically, but I'm not sure if walkers count as a "kind," while omnics can fulfill the definition of "kind" more readily.--Hawki (talk) 03:40, 7 May 2016 (UTC)
Orisa - Omnic or Robot?[]
Michael Chu posted this on the forums yesterday.
In Overwatch, omnic and robot are just about interchangeable as colloquial terms (it's the equivalent of Kleenex vs. tissue paper). In this sense, people would refer to Orisa as an omnic (as they would for Zenyatta and Bastion), particularly because the model she is based on (the OR14) was originally created prior to and during the Omnic Crisis. But people would also be correct in referring to her as a robot.
Orisa is not a drone, as she possesses a complex artificial intelligence. However, at this point in her career, she's still just starting out, so she has a long way to grow as she learns more about herself and the world around her.
