Overview

Baptiste wields an assortment of experimental devices and weaponry to keep allies alive and eliminate threats under fierce conditions. A battle-hardened combat medic, he is just as capable of saving lives as he is taking out the enemy.

Ability details:

• Prevents the HP of Baptiste and his allies from going below 20%. It even prevents environmental death, but healing the HP lost this way will not give ultimate charge.
• If a hero's HP is below 20%, it automatically becomes 20% when entering the field.
• The generator can be thrown and bounced off walls. The arc is identical to that of Biotic Launcher's alternate fire. It cannot be negated by Defense Matrix or deflected by Deflect.
• The field requires line of sight, but both the thrown generator and the field ignore barriers.
• The generator can be targeted by Hack and will be disabled for the rest of the duration. (Technically the hack lasts 10 seconds, but the generator does not last that long.)
• The generator can be frozen but will continue to function. (According to Blizzard, this is a bug.)
• If the generator is destroyed, the field will remain active for an additional 0.5 seconds.

Ability details:

• Baptiste passively generates 1% Ult Charge every 3.50 seconds.
• Before being deployed, the orientation can be changed by pressing the ultimate key again.
• Amplifies hitscan and projectile attacks alike, coming from any direction. This includes abilities such as Blizzard, Dynamite, and Biotic Orb. (Note that it does not change the total damage/healing for Biotic Orb.)
• Does not amplify the damage of melee-based projectiles such as Chain Hook or Whip Shot.
• Despite its official description, the matrix does not double the damage of the projectiles that go through. Rather, it amplifies the damage by 100%. When combined with other amplification abilities, they are added together. For example, Amplification Matrix and Mercy's Damage Boost will result in 230% damage.
• Can be destroyed by EMP.

Strategy

The secondary fire can be shot perfectly upwards so they land on the same spot later.

The trajectory of the Immortality Field generator is the same as the secondary fire, so that you can shoot a healing grenade first to make sure you throw the immortality field where you want.

Story

During the Omnic War, Baptiste was one of the 30 million orphaned children. With not much career options Baptiste enrolled in the military. He was stationed for the Caribbean Coalition where served as a medic and became his home. He was promoted to elite service not soon after. When the war had ended along with his service, Baptiste had trouble finding use of his special skills. Eventually he decided to join the mercenary group called Talon. He made a good amount of money beacuse of talon thriving on chaos after the war. At some point in this time period he opened up a clinic in his home town.

Soon after Talon began to turn from simple fight stopping society to asasinations and murders. Baptiste soon began to realize Talons true colors as what had made him an orphan in the first place. He left Talon soon after in search of a better lifestyle.

After deserting Talon and fleeing to Tortuga, Haiti, a strike team comprised of former members of Baptiste's unit, led by his mentor, Captain Cuerva, was dispatched to apprehend or eliminate him. He evaded capture, rendering the strike team MIA, and delivered their emblems to Cuerva, along with a message to seek him out.

In the correspondence obtained by Trung Le Nguyen, Cuerva noted that Baptiste was a skilled marksman despite being a medic, and boasted unusually high endurance, versatility, and even luck.

• Baptiste is Hero 30 and the ninth new hero added to the game.
• Baptiste is the only hero in the game who has different ammo for his weapon's two modes of fire.
• Jean-Baptiste Augustin is a French name derived from two saints, Saint John the Baptist and Saint Augustine of Hippo. He also shares his name with a French painter.
• When Baptiste was put on the PTR, his Immortality Field was able to deploy in out-of-bounds areas. This allowed Baptiste to travel out-of-bounds in Custom Games.
