Story[]

Toshiro and his wife, Asa, ran Yamagami Blades in Kanezaka, both of them forging and wielding swords. He would sing as he forged the swords. He was viewed by Sojiro as a respectable equal, even if the Yamagami was originally subordinated to the Shimada.[1]

One winter's day, the Hashimoto clan took Toshiro away, forcing him to craft blades for them.[2] The Hashimoto realized the threat the Yamagamis posed to their takeover, and by kidnapping Toshiro, Asa's hands were tied.[3] With leverage over Asa, they forced her to do their bidding in Kanezaka. They allowed some visitations, and seven years after his abduction, Toshiro was able to send a blade as a gift to their daughter. The following spring, Asa wrote a letter to him, telling him of the deteriorating conditions in Kanezaka. She urged Toshiro to feign respect to the Hashimoto.[2]

Toshiro kept writing handwritten letters to Asa, and was able to contact Kiriko, feeding her hatred of the Hashimoto.[3]

During Null Sector's attack on Tokyo, it was revealed fourteen years had passed since Hanzo left the Shimada, two years passed since the Dragon brothers reunited, and eight years passed since Toshiro was kidnapped. In the Hashimoto prison, the blacksmith revealed the Storm Bow was a weapon that only could have been made by him. Toshiro comforted Hanzo about honor and Sojiro. Notably, he no longer sung while forging his swords. He also requested Hanzo to convey to Kiriko he wanted to write more to her and felt proud of her actions that kept the Hashimoto in check in Kanezaka. After his short reunion with Hanzo, Toshiro was escorted by his Hashimoto overseers to another location.[1]
