While you wait is a collection of play modes in Overwatch 2. You can access it by queuing for any Game Mode. Playing via while you wait does not increase queue times.

A total of four game modes are available during queue times. They can either be played alone or with other players, all options can be played with more then one player in the group, this also includes deathmatch, which usually requires one person to play.
Practice range[ | ]
Main article: Practice Range.
There are no objectives, which makes it a good place to try new heroes, practice skills, and adjust settings. There are four friendly and eleven hostile training bots on the map that perform various actions, such as staying still, shooting, and moving. There are also range markers (in meters) on the ground.
Skirmish[ | ]
Skirmish is a game mode where there are 5 players on each team, there is no hero limit. There are no objectives, which makes it a good place to try new heroes, practice skills, and adjust settings. This is currently the only way to access skirmish other then a Custom Game.
Deathmatch[ | ]

The 8 player FFA is available to play while you are queuing. You will get put in a game where you can kill other players and try out new Heroes. There is no score to win in this version and will carry on until you get into a game, so you can practice your skills as much as you like.
Custom Games[ | ]

In custom games you can find many different ways to play in Custom Games or make your own with customizable settings. You can also try out new heroes and abilities. You can also join already existing games via the tabs on the main menu, you just cannot create your own unless you are using one that is already been made via a preset.
